    The Official Good Morning Thread

There used to be one about 30 miles from here (In Yorktown, Westchester County NY), but they took the windmill blades off decades ago. Not sure if the structure itself still remains, but I think it does. But as this photo I found shows, it has seen better days! When I was young, it still had...

What oil is best? and what ratio?

Much slower RPM, I'm sure. My Homelite 330 was touted as being "Hi speed" ... it was 7,500 RPM. I replaced it with a 10mm 044 that does 15,000. There is a difference in needs between high torque and high speed. A car engine with powdered rods can withstand a lot of torque and will even hold...

What oil is best? and what ratio?

That is exactly what I do! I have 16 running saws, most are ported, none are stock, and I often mill with 36" Stihl light bars. Using the right products (I run Saber at 40:1) keeps all of your valuable equipment functioning well.

What oil is best? and what ratio?

I use a lot of Stihl light bars, because they are the lightest for their size. You would have to pay a lot for bar oil to replace a 36" one of those because you ruined it while milling hardwood. Use what you want, it does not matter to me, but don't tell folks used oil works as well as real...

What oil is best? and what ratio?

I did try it, that is how I know. I now use only real bar oil because it works better. I have not lost a single bar using real bar oil. None of my saws are stock, perhaps you had different results with more anemic saws!

What oil is best? and what ratio?

Used motor oil will ruin your bar ... not a good idea.

What are you building with your milled wood?

Nice! My upstate cabin is 20 X 24, but 2 stories high. It replaced the 12 X 20 one story high that just never seemed big enough if you had more than 2 or 3 people. We insulated the walls on the second floor. The upstairs is for sleeping and playing cards. We are off the grid (in the...

Detials? Looks to be about 12 by 24?

Decomp - Use It or Lose It?

I almost always start my saws on the ground w/o using the decomp. Almost all my saws (13 of 16 runners) have decomp) and I much prefer to have it. When the saw is warm, I will often use the decomp and re-start it effortlessly. Guilty of not using the chain brake, as with a warm saw with...

What saw is that jug from Randy? Nice work! Also, referring to previous conversations, do fingers increase case capacity? In my mind they would seem to, but I may be wrong.

Randy, is that outlet the correct size for Bluebird nesting?

Question about Crank Stuffers Case Volume and Primary Compression

Al, I'm not saying it is anything like Deets saw, but after my busy tax season I've got to make some time so you can get some trigger time on the hybrid you did for me, which (IIRC) also has a D jug. It is a torque monster, and very pleasant to run. I know you did some pretty special work to...

Question about Crank Stuffers Case Volume and Primary Compression

No doubt that Hybrid was a screamer, but I don't think I've seen another match it, and I never ran it personally. But I believe when it was dynoed it had a velocity stack and no air filter. My Asian 660 did a respectable 8.6 Hp with a broad torque curve, so nothing to be embarrassed about. In...

Question about Crank Stuffers Case Volume and Primary Compression

Yes, but it had a velocity stack and no air filter. I'm referring to real "woods port" saws. He also said he did not touch the upper transfers.
