Stihl 462 Information, Pictures and Discussion

Regarding the saw that started this discussion, did it ever sell? Did anyone peek inside it to verify which version it was?

Boy, I'm sorry if I steered anyone wrong by mentioning this is an old version 462, I might have to eat my words! Maybe that darn vertical sticker means more than the build date??

    Stihl 400c or 462c

Ya, I'm gonna go against the grain here also....I've had both the 400 and 462. Both saws completely stock. 462 was hands down my preference! No discernible weight difference, but definitely a discernible power difference. 400 went bye bye and I haven't missed it AT ALL. Now this was the version...

    SOLD Stihl MS400

Why no trademark symbol on the recoil emblem? Reason I ask is because I just bought a secondhand 400, and I almost shat myself once I got it home and noticed the same on my saw......I don't THINK mines a fake???

Changing Oil Mix Ratios - Do I Have To Retune?

For me, as said before, depends on the temp and oil being used. Redline oil at 32:1 at 10degF ambient, the mix is so thick it has a harder time making its way thru the jets and the saw ran very lean. At those temps I use snowmobile oil and works just fine @32:1. Castor, for me, did the same at...

First time porter, want to do my 036 - numbers for a mild build?

i used two different sizes, .050 and .031.....the 50 thou solder gave me ~29-30 thou reading and the 31 thou solder gave me ~27-29....I made two L shaped pieces going in thru plug hole parallel with wristpin (opposing sides of piston) to compensate for rocking of the piston....this method seems...

First time porter, want to do my 036 - numbers for a mild build?

ok, went and checked squish - i get measurements all falling between .027 and .030"....... i also noticed it has a Zama carburetor - replace with Walbro? I'll be baselining this saw all stock before the mods.

First time porter, want to do my 036 - numbers for a mild build?

Hi guys, a novice local porter is going to hold my hand while I attempt my first saw. I'll start with dialing the squish to ~.020". I won't be machining the head, just the cylinder base. He mentioned 1 to 2 degrees on the exhaust, open the lowers as much as possible and take the intake up 10...

Advice on a new chain grinder

Man, I'm in the same boat! I have spent a year with my super jolly and am ready to go the next level. Don't get me wrong, this grinder has paid for itself 3 times over in the past year and i do like it, but the "slop" since day one has just been bugging me. One option is for me to make all new...

I have an email into Caber asking pros/cons of fcast, and in what instances one should or should not use them....since they offer a choice I certainly would like to know when and where to use which!
