I use either 36 grit flapwheel, or a 3M cubitron blue grinding wheel. As with any abrasive, less pressure does less work. If you go too fine a grit you end up using too much pressure and loose the temper of the blade due to increased friction, as evidenced by blueing on the ground surface.

It will work.... thats coming from a certified stihl tech.... have done may hundreds of them that way....

I personally dont hate them, and have a few light 01s for my 194t.... however i got them for free, perk of working at a shop, and people throwing out slightly bent bars due to misuse... i will take the time to straighten them, and use them because function always comes before form with tools....

Right up til ypu are noodling that one big log, and the clip, washer, and driver go flying into the abyss that is the noodle/sawdust pile....

For the newer milled style washer, best thing i have found for popping them off is a stihl carb screwdriver... get it in one of the "slots" in the clip, pry up against the crank, and rotate the screwdriver to walk it up out of the groove in the washer, and off the crank

Agreed... i dont hate them, but i dont see thier place in the saw world for anything other than "ooh look its fuel injected".... a 462 will do pretty much everything that a 500 can do... so why have redundance in your lineup?

Pretty much everything i own has been muffler modded, 261,280, and 362 are not ported, the 194t, 044, 460, and 661 all have been massaged a touch.....
