Same as with the brake? Lever to triangle, start saw, idle for 30 sec, then pin throttle, does 3/4 max rpm rev limit for 30 sec, then goes full throttle.... done....

Most of the overheated ones i have seen the owners have admitted to firing the saw and leaving it on fast idle to "warm up" while they donned thier protective gear 🤣 then "all of a sudden the saw started to smoke profusely".....

    SHOW ME YOUR AXES

After a bit more digging it would appear to be a 1936 "golden jubilee" craftsman axe, which seems to have a bit of value (if ebay listings are worth what they are asking for them LOL)

    SHOW ME YOUR AXES

Was on a cracked to hell handle held together with multiple drywall screws that a customer wanted us to sharpen... we told them it was unsafe to use, and they said yeah... kinda figured that, and said toss it... i figure i can play with it over winter for fun if its decent older steel....LOL

I am aware of that.... 2.0 did, and i never calibrated those with the brake on either.... never said it was specific to my 3.0 calibration... my 261 was a 2.0 when i got it.... have since changed the coil to a 3.0 coil out of a 362...still dont use the brake for calibrations... i see too many...

    SHOW ME YOUR AXES

Never really been a fan of a kindling cracker... i also have an oxenkopff/stihl hatchet that will likely do perfectly well for kindling.... LOL in addition to several other hatchet variations from trouper, sog, and a fancyhand made custom wood burned handle viking-esque hatchet that a gokd...

    SHOW ME YOUR AXES

Anyone think this head would be worth ressurecting? Or is it better off going in the scrap barrel? I already have a brand new Oxenkopff/stihl splitter as well as a fiskars splitter, so it would moreso be a fun project than a neccessity....

Never been an issue on my 261 or my 661, have always calibrated with brake off... nor has it been an issue on the countless saws i did for customers in the stihl shops i worked at for the last 10 yrs....🤷‍♂️

I have never done the 3.0 reset with the brake on, probably not gonna make a difference, but worth a try....

Picked this up yesterday, got the initial burn off done this afternoon, and currently have a pair of pork chops on it, almost ready to pull off.... Its a pit boss onyx pheonix, can run pellet and charcoal, and was on clearance locally at walmart for $251....

Stihl Ms 261C Help! Idles but dies at full throttle.

I would start by checking the inlet screen of the carb (under the cover with the single screw) for debris, and if nothing there, chexk the other side of the carb for any gunk and possibly a stiff diaphragm. If its soft and supple, theres likely a failed check valve in the carb body itself, and...
