They must have sold Southbend lathes by the tens of thousands . I think the most were the 9 and 10" models .They are fine for most jobs perhaps short for watch making or making parts for the space shuttle .FWIW I first lathe I ever used was a SB with about a 5 gallon bucket full of change gears...

FWIW you can run the colors too in general blacksmithing using a forge or even a torch .Off the subject but when I turned the worm gear wheel for repairing a hundred year old drill press in making the hob I used a piece of A2 steel .That needed heated to orange,about 1400 degrees then tempered...

After thought. I have one which is featured on chainsaw collectors corner I changed to 3/8" .050 chain using a NOS Oregon hard nose and an 8 tooth rim. Makes a whole lot of difference going...
As far as IPL's I have a dealers book that must weigh 20 pounds,CD ROM ,micro fiche and varied models of manuals .Because of Stihls allegations of intelectual property I won't send send them over the net but I can look up part numbers .Might take me a couple of days to find them though .
