Anyone got a 2 series project they want to sell? Reading this and thinking about the 262 I got recently has me itchin’ to build something. Older would be better; I kinda dig those wire form chain brakes....

I had a pretty nice 2100 once.... I kinda wish I still did. One of them 125 or 797 Macs would be fun, too.

Them old style brake flags are getting harder to find because most of us dig the vintage look.

There's a 266 with a metal chainbrake listed for $200 on my local Craigslist.

Edit: I just checked and the ad is gone. :(

Joe and I were in my barn tonight digging through his box of 288 parts. I had purchased a hyway 288 piston recently and had an OEM piston on hand to compare the two. Thought his might be helpful for anyone looking to do a build a little cheaper but wasn’t sure of the quality of the hyway piston as far as dimensions. The hyway piston is the shiny one

As you can see, the pin to crown height is identical. So squish will be where it’s supposed to be.

Here’s one difference between the two, the hyway has these “wings” on the sides of the skirt. I don’t mind extra skirt support, and since a 288 isn’t a 15k rpm screamer the extra weight doesn’t scare me. Unless someone here has experience of a failure related to these wings I say their presence is no big deal.

The last thing we noticed is the transfer windows on the hyway piston are bigger than on the OEM piston. Potentially a good thing to reduce obstruction to the transfers.

We didn’t weigh or measure them both yet, but so far I’m impressed for a piston I got for $8.99

THIS is what I'm banking on :D

Just spent the last hour on Partstree looking at IPLs getting part numbers in case I have to order new OEM parts... Mostly hardware and the like... My eyeballs are about shot now! LOL!

Dustin, I may be contacting you about a couple items.

Just looking the HyWay piston over, it looks to be of very good quality to my eye. And I like that pin to crown and overall height is identical. After all that discussion I had with Tor and Simon on the lack of good AM 242 piston options due to variations from OEM in basic dimensions, it's very nice to know the 288 has some very good AM options for a piston.

OK guys, carb question. I have a Tillotson carb, only number I see on it is S216C423. Josh tells me it's a governed carb and showed me the brass fitting that houses the governor. Should I disable the governor? Is so, how do I go about doing that?

Take out the brass plug and cut a soda can to the size of the plug. Then put the piece in followed by the brass plug. That's how I have been doing it, and it works great.
