Of the experiences I've had with the tight/loose chain thing (not including a worn drum sprocket where the chain is going in and out of the groove) the chains were not made of different manufacturer's sections, just stretched unevenly. It's not a common problem and I don't know the cause but I've seen it more than once.

No it's not .354 pitch, 370 is 3/8 .050. The 354 pitch would carry a 350 (.050) or 358 (.058) stamp on the drive links.

If you leave the chain loose enough, you can run 3/8 LP chain on a .354 sprockets...for a while anyway.

Mark- is there enough difference between the .370" pitch Mac chain and the .375" pitch Oregon chain to cause a problem?

Do worn down LP chain drivers run smoother in worn Mac 354 rims or spurs?

Have you had any problems with Oregon brand? They are the only ones I seem to find in 3/8 x 8.

No, not yet. So far Oregon would be the only AM rim I would personally use in a pinch. I just buy 6 to 12 rims any time I am getting low and have not been down to just my last new OEM one in many years. The off center ones were Chinese made, and came from different suppliers but quite likely all came from the same foundry.

Hopefully the chain is your only problem.

I thought I had covered all the usual suspects but, they were brought up anyway. [emoji849]

The post about mixing Oregon with Stihl prompts me to look further.

I do have new Carlton loops on hand that would certainly cure the problem. But, it wouldn’t be any fun.[emoji23]

The McCulloch chain marked 370 is not actually .370 pitch, but the normal .365 or .367 of conventional "3/8" chain. The 370 means 3/8 pitch (.375...) and .050 gauge. There is a long thread over on AS regarding the actual measurements of the pitch of what we call 3/8" chain.

I recommend using only spur sprockets with the wrong pitch chain, too easy for a DL to get caught on the edge and jump out of a rim type sprocket, particularly if you leave them loose enough to roll over with the wrong chain.

P.S. Sorry Carl
