More pics of my SACHS-DOLMAR 143.

Apparently built 1992 that is the year after Makita's takeover of Dolmar but still
labeled "SACHS-DOLMAR".
One major difference compared with my other 143 is: Nearly all screws are Torx-type now with
the exception of carb (Allen screws) and hood (slot-head bolts).

Air filter has lost its filter-capability.

PMAFR - Poor Man's Air Filter Repair. There is a NOS RobkoFlok filter in my backlog but it's always good to have a fallback.

--edit: Fixed model number in line 1: Its a 143, not a 142

This is a question for the experts amongst our readers.

Now that I finished my second 143 I'm once again puzzled by the fresh-air-intake setup of this model.
I already noticed this particular setup with my 143 2 years ago but didn't worry much about it.

Here is what's puzzling me:

fresh-air-intake.jpg

Left you see the 143. In its hood there is a open window between carb housing and cylinder-area (upper green tip)
and the single intake opening above the choke lever ist still closed as cast by factory.
On the right side there's a 133 super which doesn't have a connecting window between cylinder and carb housing but
rather has two fresh-air intake at the rear end of the hood (blue tips).
IMHO this means the 143 always intakes pre-warmed air as opposed to the 133 s (and 123 which is set up in similar manner)
which always gets fed with cool air.

Since the 143 has more power and more displacement one would think the 143 might be a little more thermal critical than its lower
powered siblings, but the reverse seems to be the case.

What might be the reason for this unexpected intake setup?

There might be a winter shutter slide that covers the warm air port that you could be missing?

Nope, there's no shutter missing (according to IPL)
It looks like the air wouldn’t be that hot in that area anyway. It’s just before the fins. Most the time you see the winter port on the other side so the fins have a chance to warm the air. This is just a guess lol.

We're all just guessing :)
What I found out in the meantime is, that there has been a technical change between 1987 and 1990.
1987's IPL shows for both 133s and 143 a hood like the one on my 133s whereas the latter IPL
shows a part exactly like my 143's hood for both saws. (Both have different numbers btw.)

Yet the reason is unknown
