I’ve heard the 6 was the better of the top handle macs? Purely what I’ve heard, I put 4 of the mini Mac 110’s together for my brother in law and found them to be strong runners for what they are, bit of a headache to work on

The Power Mac 6 is a nice top handle saw, plenty of power and much better ergonomics than the Mini Mac saws. The fuel filter and fuel fitting is rather unique but there are work-arounds if necessary. Biggest problem is usually the MDC carburetor. If it behaves strangely at idle, chances are you need to replace the check valve.

Hi Mark
Do you have any clutch and drums for the PowerMac 6 ?
There is a guy in Poland looking for them on Magnus's site.

I have also been using a 1-86 to run in some chains I've been trying to rescue. Today it was a shorter (19") bar and it really ripped through the new oak test log. I have been enjoying the old saw, I'm not even sure where it came from. I promise some photos to follow.

Mark
--and I have a bunch of 3/8"LP Mac branded 14" chain loops some place . How many mini Macs I'd have to take inventory .They show up like stray cats and never leave .Good price though, freebies .

I ran this 1-86 a bit more today, putting some vertical cuts in my new test log so saws with shorter bars will still have a chance. I only had a 24" bar on it today and the oak didn't slow it down much at all.

So I let a coworker borrow my crusty old 1010A today to cut up a big Chinaberry he had blow over.
He got his little 435? Husky pinched, and it wasnt doing a great job anyway.

He just texted me and said he wants one....

As far as 10-10's they made a zillion of them .Fact I've got one of the very last ever made and I think just one of the right hand starts left from several I robbed for parts to keep a 6-10 running .Over the years I might have spent money on one that came in a shipment of McCulloch parts of which the shipping cost me more than I paid for the parts and it was shipped from Ohio . I'm not sure if you can kill a 10-10 unless you get stingy with the mix oil . I liberate one every so often from the shelf and run a tank full just to listen to them beller

Okay now a story from the past like 40 years ago .My dad and myself ran old cinder block 610's .My brother in law spent a kings ransome trying to out run us with a variety of saws .One was a right hand start 10-10 he ran rocket fuel in ,aviation gasoline and nitro and 50 to 1 oil ..Well it would scoot but only for about ten minutes until it made a sacrifice to piston gods and never ran again .I've got the piston still but the crankshaft was used on the 6-10 .--almost bullet proof but everything has limitations .

Jeff - you need to create a small catalog with part numbers and applications so we all can remember everything you have available.

Mark
Would like to but I'm not up to snuff on what fits what. Just enjoy making parts and making them work and fit.

Has anyone had issues with fixed hi jet sdc’s over fueling in the cut? Have a pro Mac 10-10 that’s a bit of a parts saw I got running over winter. There was a little rubber? Plastic? Tube that was collapsed in on itself right at the fuel inlet so I pulled that out, cleaned it checked diaphragm and needle, set metering lever. Idled and ran out of the cut nicely.
Cleaning up a fence line with a buddy and this poor Mac got walked by a 50cc echo so I obviously can’t let this stand

The fixed jet deals came about to attempt to answer warrantee issues caused by a lean run .Some work some don't .Fact I have a Mac 105 that came with one which I changed out with a 125 carb .Because it's so pristene it's a shelf queen however a very good running queen .If memory serves I used that fixed jet on another saw, might have been a 7-10 but it did fine on that saw .In addition to that and also if memory serves in one of the service bulletons put out by McCulloch it addresess those carbs. Mark most likely would know more about them than I do .All I do is make them run not all the specifics .

I have not encountered a fixed jet carburetor in any 10-10 models that I can recall. I have them in a CP55, PM55, 7-10, SP105, and SP125 that I can think of off the top of my head. None of them will rev wildly out of the cut, but they all work hard in the cut. The 105 and 125 in particular need to have a long bar and a pretty decent load in order to clean up.

I have an LG6 that came with a governed Tillotson but I could never get it to run properly so I replaced it with a fully adjustable SDC but to be honest, my worn out 2-10 G still seemed to be faster in logs up to 20" or so. It's not always just displacement that matters, torque and chain speed are important factors as well.

If you are cutting smaller stuff (under 4") then it's likely a modern, high revving small displacement saw will be faster unless you get downright dangerous on the depth gauges on the 10-10. Alternative would be to try an 8 tooth sprocket and see if that helps on chain speed. Or just wait until you get into some larger diameter wood and then show your buddy the advantages of having a little torque to spare.

The Echo is likely running 3/8 LP or .325 chain which has a smaller kerf and is therefore removing less wood which helps keep the chain speed up as well. I'd say use your 10-10 as intended and don't worry about a few cuts in smaller stuff.

Mark

P.S. Make sure your chain is sharp and the depth gauges set correctly...
