A lot of those early designs makes you wonder what they were thinking about .Right hand starters ,bull frog or flat back carbs ,hold down chokes you need three hands to start the saw . On the other hand they were made solid as a battle ship .

Yep, you have run over them or crush them with something HEAVY or straight gas really bad to kill them.
I bet icould put a flywheel, coil, and fuel line on the junk PM700 and it would run. That thing was beaten like a rented mule. Flywheel separated from shaft insert.

Since you mentioned it had a flywheel I thought was okay on the 6-10 .After changing the crankshaft twice I changed the flywheel and haven't a problem since .It evidently was wobbley and tore the slot for the key out of the crankshaft . Now I have two crankshaft-less 10-10 righties .

Sounds pretty good! Is that with the reed valve muffler? Full comp chain or skip?
I'm hoping to find a 24" some day for mine and run a full chisel full comp setup. Currently has what seems to be original 18" bar.

Reed in place, no skips on the tooth's.

There was certainly nothing wrong with design or performance of a model 700 Mac .In using same with a Stihl 038 mag that is modified on a day that reached 95 degrees a few years back this I found .After a run ,after a refuel the Mac evidently had over heated the ignition and wouldn't start until it did cool down .The Stihl always started .It would out cut the old Mac but same was stone cold stock with no modification and did very well all things considered .No complaints .

Hoping for a little help... Came across a 5-10E at a yard sale. I can’t barely find anything on this saw online. So hoping some knowledgeable people here can help. The brushes for the electronic start but the points are busted. So I was planning on removing a few of the electronic start parts and putting in an ignition chip to bypass the points. Is anyone aware if this will Not work before I get too far. I have not tried starting it yet with just the points in it. I have to put it back together because someone was in there tinkering around.

That is quite a rare saw. I would not personally remove or damage any electric start pieces on that saw for an electronic chip. What pieces do you need? Got some pics?

Whom ever disconnect all the wires and can’t find any pictures to know what goes where. Also the brushed next to the points, the bottom one is broken. Otherwise it came complete as far as I know, yet.. I have top and side covers on the bench

I started with an Eager beaver 3.4 from a yard sale, to a Promac 610. Then added a few more yard sale finds, a Mac 3500, and Mac 3200. Now I have a nice 700, this 5-10, a Mac 310, jonsenred 49sp, a homelite 150 and a couple other. It’s a fun disease to have lol. For some reason my wife just doesn’t understand though haha
I have them all running except for the 5-10E

I just looked at my micro fiche slides and found 3-10 E but not 5-10 but might be similar .I get up real early in the morning, like 4:30- 5 AM .I'll get on it before the rooster crows .In the mean time you might be able to epoxy the brush holder with something .

I was thinking of doing something like that and see if I can get it to spark. I haven’t tried yet since it is obviously not all the way together yet
