I am partial to the Mal, but any good dog is a good dog. And I tend to think that any dog is only as good as what training the handler puts into the dog.

I got the Mal because they are always ready to roll, and they require very little down time. They have less genetic error as they have been bread less as far as I know.

I’ll try to remember to get some pics.
I’ve been working on the cylinder a bit before heading out to work in the mornings.

First cuts after porting, brand new ring.
Tune seemed to change On the second tank, really had to push to clean up the four stroking, could have been the chain dulling too.

Cold this morning. Real cold. 064 started the day, then the Dolmar came out to play. 3 ash trees dropped and bucked, left the mess behind.:D 8428B57B-3CBB-4917-966E-BDABE101003D.jpeg 66084275-6252-4422-8EAA-39BFCDA701CB.jpeg F939D42F-6F31-419F-86CD-5AB678124DAF.jpeg 5A8A5EFF-252B-469B-B23D-9FB225567E38.jpeg

All I took was 5 foot of the biggest trunk for test cuts. It’s a buddies place, pretty remote. He was worried about the driveway being blocked and has about 20 dead ash he wants gone. Told me to drop them and leave them as long as driveway was clear. He can cut up anything on the ground for firewood. After 3 on the ground he looked a bit panicked at the work he had ahead of him and didn’t want anymore down. I was just starting to have fun so I bucked it all up and left.

No pics of chain when sharp and it’s dull now.
Swapped out for a round filed RS which also cut real well. Dead ash is tough on chains and air filters.

That's great, and great burning wood as well as good testing wood. I've been using that ash log in my videos quite a while, it's big enough to see what changes are making the biggest difference without a stopwatch.
Most guys don't know how hard that stuff is!

From what I can tell, the bigger stuff that was already killed by the eab seems to be a little punky until you get 15' or so up the tree. Ash that were cut down before the bugs got to them are hard like oak after a few years.

But they all dull chains. I think the tree brings sand up with it as it grows. It's hard to cut more than a face cord of clean wood before the chain is dull

If it came from Dan it’s my old stuff. A slot the top with set screws to hold HSS steel. It’s double ended with 50 and 52mm on each end.

If the cutter isn’t digging in good with them you shin one side f the cutter with a tiny piece of paper to get it to have a tiny bit of lean.

Perhaps you should get the air filter in the background of the pic.
It may really make the chain shine.
    Just a thought...
