Recently had an MS880 in for an 088 intake and carb upgrade, limited coil removal, and no oil. Cylinder work went fine, coil no issues, and oiler... well I found a worm that was a little looser than I liked so in went a new OEM worm AND oil pump gear. Saw pumps oil when fired.. win.
Saw is wearing a 41" .404 Stihl bar and Stihl chain. Full skip square. I cleaned the bar and opened up the oiler holes. At this point I tested it in some VERY dry red oak and it oiled... but nothing over the top. I rinsed the tank with diesel.. no change.
Owner is running it and says oiler performance is not what it was new (he purchased this saw new). My question is what is crapping out? Is the pump bore worn? Could adjuster bolt O-rings cause this issue? I'm open to ideas but again this is a working saw and I hate to throw parts at it. We have gone from no oil to oiling.. but barely enough for a 41". I would think an 084/088/MS880 would slobber a 41" bar.
