I've mostly downrigged for chinook salmon for the last 25 years , but as the grandsons got more independent ,
they made me go for bass and lakers. The bass are now averaging bigger than when I was a teenager.
They started to feed on Gobies (an invasive species in Georgian Bay)5Bass1.JPG 8Bass4.JPG 8Lakers5.JPG

Wish we had enough ice for fishing.
Gonna soon start fishing the river for walleye. Guy from work caught one last week. Should be starting soon.

What type rigs, jigs, or lures do you toss into that swift current?
I do pretty well, when the turbines own tossing big "Rooster Tails, Rattle-Traps, Swim Baits"...still hard for me to get used that current.
Lots of different ways but heres one Main line down to swivel with a dropper line with split shot. Then a four or five ft leader tipped with a fly or whatever.

Anyone kayak ocean fishing?

Have been paddling around the local rocky coastline with light gear this Summer in a green plastic bath tub excuse for a kayak that has all the hydrodynamics of a brick and leaks like a Trump administration, but finding some good fighting surface fish (mainly Kahawai), and losing a few monsters that smoked me on the rocks. Am saving up to get a bit more serious about it, with a view to learning how to catch the premier hell-raiser inshore-accessible fish here called Kingfish (you call 'em Amberjacks up there). Minimum legal size for those is 750mm (29.5") here and they grow up to about 2000mm (78"). Absolute freight trains built for speed. Looks like great fun in a kayak. Quite a challenge. I could die happy if I nailed one like this ( skip to 2:50):

Landed and released three good sized Kahawai last night. Only keep a few from time to time as we aren't big fish eaters and I actually can't stomach seafood at all.
