Thanks Mike.
I already set a deal up with him.
Did you ever sell that 246.
Is that 110v? The motor looks skinny.
It is, I thought it was gonna be the 12volt version they use in the field, but he said it's 120 and it's a little low on power.
Depending on what it is I'll switch the arm to mine or the motor from mine onto it and get another large motor/replacement motor for it.
Figure that out when I get it home :).
Anyone we know? Looks to be in good shape
Howard is a great guy, done business with him for yrs, he buys and sells lots of bars and chains as well as sharpening them.

The "skinny" motor is the same one used on the older Silvey round grinder.
Thanks.
I was looking at the pictures and I wasn't sure if I can put the larger motor on it because of the part that wraps around the back part of the motor. We'll figure it out.
How old are we talking, I’ve got a few older round Silvey grinders none of them have that small motor on them.

I'm expecting it to have an ac/dc adapter on it and to have a 12 volt motor myself.
Never seen a 120 volt like that.
Check out the serial #.

I don’t know much about simington grinders other then we see Kelly down at the show again after about a 15 year break. I’m not sure how early they started doing the 12 volt ones.

I have a 500 with the rounded chain holder with the small motor.

Here’s a 1985 500

Same as mine. While they are smaller than the motor on the new Simington, the motor on the one Brett is dealing on does look smaller in diameter.

The wiring box for the switch looks cast into the base.
Yes, that's what I understand to be the case after looking into it a bit more. There's a thread on AS I just bumped, the guy had one with a bad motor, waiting to hear back. @srcarr52 you were in that thread, any thoughts/advice. The guy I'm getting it from said the motor is weak to him compared to his round grinders so I'll either have to have it rebuilt or remove the wiring box and open the hole up from what I can tell.
It’s called a “beer can” motor. I am pretty sure the casting/mount is totally different. Fixxin’ To find out when chipper gets it home to play with
Sometimes things like this sit for a while before I make it happen, the good thing is that I'll still have a grinder up and running. Another good thing is I can pull measurements and get ideas off the 450 simington I currently have.

I ended up milling the box off, boring the hole out and mounting a motor like the new simingtons have on it.

My P&D and pro sharp all use the same motor that’s the larger motor that Silvey put on.
