I did the muffler mod that is shown in my earlier post. The saw is painful to run without ear protection. My neighbors HATE me!šŸ˜‡

muffler for a Komatsu Zenoah clone saw
- cut in into two parts to empty it inside
- two 16mm outlet ports
but I need more exercises on welding thin metal, normally I do 10mm or so on my tractor

What does the inside of that muffler look like? I thought they were pretty empty to begin with?

some (EU?) models do have an catalysator inside which causes a lot of counter pressure AND heat,
and all models have a diffusor inside

Where are you sourcing your rivnuts and screws? I canā€™t imagine theyā€™re all created equal. I see a ton of cheap ones all over Amazon.
I can recall ordering a bunch of each so as I wouldn't run out some years ago, the exact vendor eludes me. Places I go to most in the past were/are Fastenal, McMaster Carr and Grainger if that helps.

So not Amazon lol. Stuff like that Iā€™d prefer to spend a couple dollars and get higher quality if possible. Last thing I want is something breaking off inside the muffler.

I've ordered some quality made bolts from an eBay vendor a few times before, you just need to check over what they are selling carefully before buying.

is it super loud?
Well I never ran this saw stock, so canā€™t compare it to that. I did machined it and ported it also. Compression, I expect, is quite high. Only ran it this morning unloaded. I donā€™t have a bar for it yet. But yes, it did seem to make a lot sound for its size!
