New plug in a Echo 303t, less than 1 tank of gas. Looks about right, I think

I have whole case of used plugs somewhere that covered most of the old black and white text book plug reading. Much better live in color. Makes it easier to read the center electrode and the ground strap color. Plus having plugs from two and four strokes shows soft ash with carbon vs hard fuel deposits. Very different "dirty" plugs between the two.

I was wondering if it was a little rich, but the engine sounded pretty close to where I like them.I would like to see many HD textbook examples of chainsaw plugs.

Anyway, the more pics the better. I see this as kind of like identifying trees by the wood and bark, you need to see a few or many examples of each to be good at identifying them.

It always helps. Your plug is on the upper right imo.

I like my work saw on the far left third line.

From the first to the third line at the far right is acceptable if it runs good. They could be two thousand rpms apart or exactly the same on the same or different saws.
Clear as mud.

Take note of the lack of tan or brown color at the start of row four. Grey is bad. The later part of row four starts leaching aluminum off the piston. Aluminium makes great fuel if you get it hot enough. It will show up on the plug first.

Most of these plugs show how inefficient saw engines are

Two stroke plugs are tough to read. Every oil leaves a little bit different color on the plug, especially the heavy died ones. Any idle time can really mess up the reading too. Hitting the kill switch in a cut can help.

2188 just now switched to 32:1, original plug I think. I cleaned it just a little with a wire brush before tuning it on 32:1

I see those really small bumps on the plug, so maybe it's getting too hot?

The spark screen on chainsaws tells how they are running as well... it’s not good for quick analysis though. Takes longer to get color. Good reference on saws that come in for repairs with lots of run time, or to take a look after a couple hours use.

From a new 2511t, this one had the needles way richer than what I've found to be consistent from the factory. Looks ok though, but I have a feeling chainsaws get hot enough to mess up good plug readings.

Is the saw lean or fat?
