I'm currently working on a SHINDAIWA 488 Chainsaw and it has the non-adjustable carburetor.

I was wondering what my options are.

Walbro HDA-79-1 seems to be the fully adjustable carburetor that fits???

I'm not scared Of Chinese carburetors,

Thank,

Ah yes, a 488 .... one of of my faves.

Check for good spark. They're known to be wonky now and again. I've used the replacement jobs from Huztl off eBay and had very good success .... the last 488 probably would start turned over by hand.

I don't have an HDA-79, but do have an HDA-3 from a 488 .... PM me if interested.

This saw starts and runs good, but seems to lack the top end it should have.

I'm sure an adjustable carburetor and muffler mod will fix that!

This is that little pipe behind the screen, I fought it like pulling a tooth from a grizzly bear!

My last adjustable spare. ;). I hardly see these saws even though I love them. I can spare it.

I just found one on line, but I couldn't get that one to start as easy as the non adjustable one, the non adj one It stated on 2 pulls all the time.

Those are great saws, yes. Throw that non adjustable carb out the window. They're a whole different saw when you can tune them properly

Don't be scared of chinese parts for these either, I've had good luck. OEM seals are real cheap too,IIRC

You better order/pick up a kit for it unless the non adjustable fits... I'm sure it could at least use a diaphragm.

The saw runs great! This is the first shindaiwa I've ever run and it seems to have nice power!

I didn't run the saw before the MM, but I did run it with the EPA carb. The adjustable carb woke up the saw and allows it to run the way it should.

I'll get a video upload..... sometime.
