Had to move a captured honeybee swarm into a new hive. In hindsight, if that oak falls over everyone is going to have a bad time

Some of my yardbirds followed me into the garden.

I keep finding this milk snake in my woodyard. I keep moving it out of the way to avoid crushing it with the tractor. I'd rather have a few easygoing snakes than a ton of mice around, I guess.

It's a .22. It's all I've ever needed for ground hogs, raccoons, skunks, squirrels and chipmunks. Don't need .22LR power when you're accurate and shooting within 120'. Would be nice to have semi auto capabilities though. Eyeing the new AEA's pretty hard.
120 yards or 120 feet?

Air rifles intrigu me.

He stated 120' with his.

I've played with mine out to 100 yards and made consistent hits on soda cans at that distance. I love the suppression that is built into the barrel and the repeater/magazine setup.

On one occasion, I watched my brother wax a starling at 115 yards with his Marauder (also a .22). We spent alot of time "tuning" our rifles and using different weight and brand pellets to find what works best. I have mine tuned to 930fps with an 18.1 gr pellet, and have had no trouble with rabbit sized animals out to 75 yards. The pellets are not particularly efficient flying through the air, and they lose velocity fast, though.

Our optics use a mil-dot style reticle as you have to figure for wind and drop with a pellet rifle at any significant distance. I get about 30 full power shots, and then I have to re-fill the onboard air cylinder with my hand pump. The pump looks like a bicycle pump but has multiple stages, so you can create in excess of 3000 psi while pumping.

I love the PCP rifles. I've got a RAW HM100X in .25 and an old Air Arms S410E in .22. Both are accurate as hell. The RAW is quiet as a mouse fart and has plenty of power. Folks are using 30 and 50 cals to hunt coyotes, hogs and deer where legal. Check out Ted's Holdover on Youtube. His starling and pigeon eradication videos are cool.

Okay. I thought that might have been a typo. But I guess not. I wonder how much energy is retained at 120 yards? If the bc of the pellet is know it could be calculated.

My 22lr rifles have moa reticle's plus lots of dial-up. Zeroed at 100 yards. The best to date is 380 something yards on a gopher. All I shoot is cheap bulk Remington ammo. This really limits a guy.

This is the reason I have a hard time going with a air rifle.

Who in y'alls opinion has the best air rifles?

My .25 has 31 fpe @50 yds. 19.2 @120 yds. 120 is a long shot for an air rifle. You can set them up for higher velocity, but keeping them subsonic between 900 and 1000 fps is the general rule. This keeps things quiet and pellets will tend to become unstable when supersonic. You have to spend some time with a chrony to figure out the drops. IMO, FX is making the best, these days. Here is a graph of my .25 w/40 yd zero:

My tables show my .22 pellet as only having 13 ft/lbs out at 120. My pellets have a bc of .033 so they are about as efficient as a badmitten shuttlecock lol.

The largest draw to the pcp airguns for me was the integral suppression. There are many places I've been able to shoot where a .22lr would have drawn far too much attention.

As for who makes the best air rifle? That could turn into an "oil thread" discussion real fast 🤣 . I went with the Marauder because it was affordable. I was looking at offerings from Air Arms, Air Venturi, and FX, but I couldn't justify the extra money at the time.

Wow, you guys really get technical. I have had a Gamo Shadow 1000 for at least 20 years. The only tuning is a GRT-III trigger. I haven't seen the need to tune it further as it's been accurate for taking care of varmints. If I shoot something 100 yards away, it's likely on a neighbor's property. I also installed a Hawke 3-9x40 scope since my eyes aren't what they used to be. Pellet is a .177, 10.65 gr.
