I can see it being a fun and challenging job at times! And then you see all of those YouTube videos of cranes toppling over…
Challenge is getting the material to the job site, getting figured out where it's supposed to go from someone who will be signing for it, getting people out of the way when you're swinging material(not sure why folks desire to stand under a couple thousand pounds of material that could fall on them
), and then getting unstuck from the mud you had to ram into to get close enough to reach the front porch, door, or window, other than that it's pretty fun(since carrying it was talked about in my previous post).
I've got a good amount of experience running KB's and cranes, you learn how to wipe out a building, dump the load, or get it to the ground quickly when and outrigger sinks! Most the videos of guys dumping a crane over they are lifting loads that they are unaware of the total weight or loads that can shift, many times it involves improper rigging or rigging failures as well. You see a lot of that on tree work because guys take to big of a pick, once it comes off an 8' tall stump it's hard to set it back down on it when you swing before you lift
.
I actually enjoy the risk involved as it's a nice challenge.
Too bad all the pics are gone. I think I posted pics of some of the trucks I drove and the loads, I liked a lot of that too, very few pictures of the rigs/loads though.
