Yup, for the Fords that didn't leak oil, the pans rusted. I used to be pretty good at changing them.
I had a short wide '87? (I dont remember?) Ford F150 with the 300 & 5 speed standard years ago.
I loved the 300 but the gas mileage was a deal killer for me.
It was horrible on gas.
A short wide 6 cylinder that had dual tanks from the factory...
I should have connected the dots. Lol
It was a great truck tho, never had a single problem with it.
I was getting about 12-13 I figure.Mine averages 16mpg. Averaged a solid 19 on my trip last week.
They had a poll on a car forum years ago (mostly mechanics) as to the best motors ever built & the 300 came in 4th (thousands of votes).
That's pretty good.
The 300 was like a tractor engine. Efficient, no. Speed demon, nyet. Lots of torque and hard to kill, yes. Usually used a quart of oil to a tank of gas and would keep running without much oil pressure.
Yes to all except I've never had one use oil. Maybe 1/2quart per 3000 miles. That over 4 different engines all over 100k.
