Now darnit the shops around me about have a heart attack if you aske to BUY non-runners..... I mean it's ridiculous, I don't think doughnuts would work on these guys, heck I doubt steaks would!!!!

There's another dealer in Ky a visit that has a shop junk room they let me browse through got quite a bit of good stuff there also.

They made till about 1996 I think, most hiluxes here are double cab but the tray is pretty small on them. They still hold decent prices though because hiluxes are very popular here and most are diesel too.
Did you ever see this ad?

 no i havent heard of that.

I owned a solid axle '84 toyota standard cab with the 22r...was a great truck but they stopped the solid (front) axle imports to the US around 85-86. And while you can get a 4 door tacoma here I think, they are pussified versions of the real trucks they used to be. And all the classic ones are rusted in half by now :(

We never got tacomas , the biggest motor is a 4.0 v6 which isn't too common. They stopped selling f150s and Chevy trucks new here in the early 80s .
My brother has the same truck you have but a double cab and he pulled the 22r and swapped in a 3.slow which he regrets. It's either getting a Lexus v8 or Buick/Holden 3.8 transplant .

View attachment 49377 $10 supposed to have a lightly scored piston. Feels like there's some residual compression... so I'm hopeful that the cylinder is still okay.

Anyone know if it's an open port or a closed port?

Open port, they run pretty good. If the cylinder is trashed (and if you can find one) Tecomec made a pretty good 242 cylinder kit at one time, not sure if they still do though @Spike60?

There's a used 242 p&c on fleebay right now.

I picked these up a bit a couple weeks ago.
The 257 I already sold, the 242 still has nice machine marks on the piston :).20170105_152858.jpg20170103_232031.jpg Missed the real deal on a bunch of these, but still managed to score a couple. Hard to believe that there is a husky bar with a .063 chain size and they are reduced weight bars as well, I thought it was a misprint, but it ain't. Now, to find a saw to run them on lol.20170111_002123.jpg20170111_002219.jpg

I pulled the top end last night and started in on the cynlinder. At first look I thought it had damaged the plating, but after slowly working on it for an hour, it's looking pretty good. Still have to polish it up some. 20170113_172330.jpg 20170113_181234.jpgBefore & After. I've ordered an AM piston and can't wait to get her running!

Well, I can't complain about this one. A local tree guy drops off 8 saws for me to fix. I had talked to him months ago, and he showed no interest, but I guess he spoke to someone else I fixed a saw for and then he called me.

There are 6 - MS460s (on is crushed) and 2 - 066s. There was only one working recoil and one half decent chain cover, and broken clutches, broken off bolts, etc. So after some repairs and robbing from one saw for another, and stealing a chain cover from one of my own saws, I returned 2 fully functioning MS460s and one 066, all with new fuel filters, air filters, plugs, chain catches, sprockets, dp muff covers and pulled the carb limiters. In exchange, I got to keep the remaining saws!

Already got the 066 and one MS460 running, but they both need some parts, but as far as I'm concerned the deal has paid off already. Surprisingly, none of the saws have scored pistons.
