Evening folks. Slow day at work, then came home and watched the Nascar race. Kyle Larson won at Kansas, closest finish in Nascar Cup history. One one-thousandth of a second. Pretty awesome race.

How much screen space is one one thousands of a second on an 85inch monitor?

So how far can i free-span with a 2 x 8?
How about a 2 x 10?
Want to build a lean-to off the house to park the old Ferd under.
Would rather not have to truss something. Hoping for 16-20' if the roof pitch will allow it.
Gotta do maffs to see how wide i can make it.

Finally change you ways and switch to using freedom units? Anyway, on a 85" TV, t'was about a Dall hair...

If I did the maffs right, at 180 mph, 0.001 seconds is about 3".

With no snow load to worry about, and a metal roof, 16' 2x10s would be fine.

Of course i just remembered i cant get anything in PT longer than 16', so ill have to do a form of truss.
Also only have 2 x 4 rafters where it ties in to the existing roof.
Could i do a "bastard" partial length truss with a ledger attached to the wall to keep as much headroom as i can?
Hard to explain what im trying to do.
Would be doing this lean-to for now, but plan to build out a carport and replace the metal carport we have at the end of the house eventually.
Everything will follow the existing roof pitch.

Does any of that make sense?

Why PT if it is under roof?

Two words.
Carpenter bees.
They eat EVERYTHING thats not PT down here.
They will TRY to bore into the PT, but the chemicals stop them about 1/4" in.
Painting helps, but they will still try.
I learned not to use latex caulk to fill the holes. They will chew right through it.

Good morning men, on call for a week starts now. No projects this week for me. I like no projects. Stay safe all, and watch out for those carpenter bees. If they learn to do metal, we are all screwed.

Morning / Evening All. Looking forward to a work, more slacking allowed than being at home. E is struggling with his braces, need to get a wire clipped as it is digging in and we can’t adjust it at all.
