Hey all,

According to Farmatec their new Holzfforma pro bars are much improved eg:

https://www.farmertec.com/Holzfforma®-Pro-3-8-058-24inch-84DL-Guide-Bar-For-Many-Husqvarna-Chainsaws-like-Husqvarna-61-66-266-268-272-281-288-365-372-385-390-394-395-480-562-570-575-p509229.html

They appear to be laminated bars given the weld spots and the replaceable tips look similar to the old style. I'm a bit dubious. Their old white bars, which are still listed on the site, were rubbish in my experience.

Was hoping to get opinions on the new style metallic look "pro" bars from those who have put some time on them.

Cheers.

Just because it has clear coat instead of paint doesn't mean it is hard or has tight rails. I just wish I had a precision 90deg rail grinder of some sort as well as a .063 groove grinder, so I could square up any bar, cheap or not, and re cut the groove to .063 when they get too worn for .050.

Ha ha, the rails fell apart on my white Holzfforma.

Fair point re the Tsumura, mine have lasted v well. In Australia they are well over$100 whilst the so called Holzfforma pro bars are a third the price delivered. Keen not to through good money after bad though...

Agreed. I'm concerned Farmatec may simply be trying to copy the look of reputable bars made by Tsumura and Sugihara.

In au a tsumura lite bar is
18" $150
20 "$160+
24" $200
28" $220
And it gets a whole new level expensive after that

How much are the Stihl light bars?

I haven't heard enough good about them to get one, though I really do want a rail closer. I just figured if I really needed to, have someone weld the groove, then re grind it if only I had such a grinder.
They work good, just have to be careful to close it small amounts at a time and measure your groove as you go. You don’t hear about them much on here cause guys don’t wear there bars out cutting cookies (haha just joking a bit) or they just run the next size gauge up when it gets sloppy. There’s no need for all the welding and grinding work with the groove closer, a waste of time if you ask me.

I've also been concerned about uneven wear and the fact that it closes the rail edges more than the lower part, you know me over thinking it all, and half expecting some undesirable results. I guess I try one out.

Thanks for the responses gentlemen.
So at this stage not much positive to say about the bars in question.
Was hoping they would be an acceptable second bar to leave in the truck for when I get pinched etc.

Huh?

You don't roll out to the woods with multiple saws?

Ha ha, usually just the old reliable MS460. Sometimes a toy or two find their way into the truck. Which get used depends on how much time I've got.
