Here is a nice clean echo 590 I ported and modded the muffler I am selling the saw pho.
I figure the stock saw is worth $225
The porting magic pixie dust and copious bs is worth $25
I also deburred the plastic so I figure that is worth $50
Bringing the total to 300 plus ship pho

Here are some videos first is just a muffler mod
Then the ported saw vids.

It’s clear that there are some nice gains but I don’t have a sticker yet so the 40% may not have been met
NBWS will be my porting name

No balls work saw

We promise to live up to our name.

Mm

Thank you Randy. I am not certain on the compression reading. I pulled the gasket but did not cut the base. It has some room to tighten the squish. If someone wants that done I would happily do so provided they are willing to wait a couple more days

I wasn't sure. It looked like a base gasket delete only, but the transfers look raised a lot. Makes me wonder how much blowdown. I wonder if Echos in general need larger transfers?

Oooo. Oooo op. I know I know

Lol

Don’t worry I raised the ex a lot too but still low numbers they a little different because of the long stroke. Still has real good torque.
I will share my build sheet with the buyer.
Thank you for the interest.

Not saying it's bad, you had more gains than me from porting after the MM, so that's why I was wondering, though I only deleted the gasket and widened and raised the exhaust and rounded the rear transfers, and got no noticeable gains <5% over the MM. So the power is in the intake and/or transfers.... or a really high exhaust.

For anyone who may not know this......David was porting saws when I found these sites.

He's no rookie......but he's very modest.
Extremely modest. Anybody that has ever talked with David knows how well spoken and intelligent he is. The guy will *f-word anything....literally anything. But hes honest and knows a lot about this stuff.

Well if this helps confuse you intake is stock lol

I can't remember what I used. I think super techniplate at 40:1 at the time.

I only compared times in your videos at first, now I compared rpm/load (sound). It seems you pressed a little harder on the ported version than the MM which can skew the results, but what I really find strange is how the ported saw sounds much louder, and the MM saw sounds about stock . Mine and yours might actually be similar performing side by side.

Anyway I had some less than perfect comparison videos of either my 490 or 590 because I didn't load them hard enough when stock, I expected them to cut fastest at a higher rpm like my 2188 does, but its is a somewhat peaky saw with depth gauges filed to match the peak.

I am sure our saws are close in performance. I like that you seem to have a healthy appetite for figuring the saw tuning mystery out that keeps most of us intrigued.

I recommend going to gtg. I wish I had sooner.

Also start collecting ported saws of reputable builders you can see what they do and it offers a litmus to compare your work against.

Yes.....

lol just kidding. The carb is stock. From what I have seen the carb feeds it well, If I was going to upgrade something it would be the coil.
