Was at Walmart the other day and saw these knock-off "No-Spill" 5 gallon gas cans marketed as "Easy-Can". Solid red plastic can, and the dispensing meter was identical in design, but instead of yellow/white plastic it was all black. It was only I think $27. I think that's about half the price of the "No-Spill" version.

This week I was over at Home Depot and saw a knock off 2.5 gallon version. HD even has it on their website.

Hmmmm. Unless the patent on the No Spill nozzle has expired I think no spill Jill has a legitimate lawsuit for patent infringement. And yeah that price is right along the price I can buy the genuine product for. the only thing I can think of is that no spill are making these cans and selling them under a different name or they're allowing the patent to be used by other people under license.

If it's made in China they don't care about patents over here the company Iam working for at the moment get reticulation components made in China but they sell the same product to other companies with a 10% variation to avoid patent issues.

People make a big fuss about No Spill cans but for right around 30 dollars from Zoro you can get a 2.5 or 5 gal Eagle safety can which I would much rather have.

No nozzles to manipulate. Just pull the lever and pour.

Look at the Home Depot screen shot in the original post. The front of the can is marked made in the USA, so that's the reason I think it's made by or licensed by No Spill.

Our stuff also says made in Australia under license but it's passed on by the Chinese to other companies so a knockoff can be produced

My problem is that I don't spill enough gas to be enough of an annoyance to spend that among of money on a gas can. I keep my older 10 to 15 year old gas cans, they work well

If your gas cans are 10 to 15 years old that's why you don't hate them. The big pull is for those people who do not have older cans and have to buy the new epa-rated sucky ones. I personally have a couple no spills but mostly older cans that I'm fine with.

I like the Eagles as well, but haven't found them that cheap. I will look into it.

I buy the old style gas cans when I find them. Ones with out
any of the fooooolash safety crap. I have common sense and
know how to use one as intended.

You can buy the new cans and then the caps and make them old style. They even come with vents that you drill and snap in. But the kit is like $12 so it makes even the most basic can that much more money now and no gas can is cheap anymore.

Best thing to do is go to thrift stores and yard sales and pick them up for a few dollars each. I find them on the side of the road mostly though for free.
