Looking for opinions whether to leave the original cosmetics or give it the full paint & graphics treatment.

I have one I did three years ago that turned out nice.

Keep in mind just cleaning it with mineral spirits it will loose more of the original finish.[emoji21]

Infamous Remington paint. Shame on DuPont!

Clean er up and paint it, old mag saws look great painted up. If it was already near mint then I would keep it that way but that saw needs to be spruced up.

I wanted a feel for what would interest a Deere collector.

The graphics can be spendy.

The above is scored badly but I have another SL-55 and a Homelite 925 piston kit to modify slightly to work in the Remy.

Just a bit of lathe work on crown height and skirt length to make it fit. Diameter (natch) and wrist pin matches.

Other than the cost of the rattle can paint, the graphics were near $45 done by a local sign company.
I supplied them with the original and they duplicated it in stick on vinyl. Peel and paste.
The running deer you can get at a Deere dealer.

The numbers on the clutch cover are the most 'spendy'.

Comparison of Homie XL-925 piston to the Remy SL-55.

Homie shirt is too long but that can be trimmed on a lathe.

Problem is, the top ring position on the Homelite will be 1/16" higher at TDC. That may be too much for the transfers to breath proper.

The rest will come off easily in the bead blaster, actually soda blast is the way to go now, parts come out shiny like polished shiny.

It could be Tig welded then new land cut for single ring

Going to trim the Homie piston skirt and assemble it. We can always trim the crown later.
A dry compression check will tell us if we need to.

That and the Fairbanks Morse (old slippery) starter.

When one collects Remys, one learns all the tricks to make the Fairbanks Morse starter work proper.[emoji108]

The circus bear clued me in several years ago.
