We put one of those on our wood stove in the shop. Ran it for years without trouble. And yes wood lasts longer with better heat. Just don’t bump the valve open and forget it. You’ll come out to a puddle of blazing oil. Might know about that from a past experience. But works well if you keep an eye on it.

This is my second year Jerry. I bought the setup used and I'm not sure how many seasons the previous owner put on it. It has a grate in the bottom barrel and no fire brick.
In the pic the pipe coming out of the barrels is TIG welded stainless.

My grandfather had a drain oil drip on his shop stove. Coal was the primary fuel.

His shop was at 7th Avenue & Sidney, two blocks north of the AB brewery. Moved out and retired about ‘60.
