Theres a screw that comes in the end of the handle that screws into the buffer. The buffer screws into the case. Its gravy

Take the cover off the right side of the top handle. Pop the switch out to expose the screw for the handle. Take screw out and pull old handle off. Stick new one in and get screw started and it will pull the handle all.the way in. On the lower av I use a 20mm open end wrench and tighten it to the case then reinstall the lower handle screw.

I had problems with buffer and new screw. Handle itself was ok. Had to swallow my pride and have dealer friend help.
Otherwise, a really handy saw.
I lucked out and found perfect small case cheap.

It's a Stihl case. Maybe it was for an 011 or some small saw. Another nice find was case that fit MS 170.
