Finally, I was the first caller. Scored a a 2010 346xp today. Of course it doesn't run, but is complete. It will need a piston and rings at least. I have a nice OE top end, would it wrong of me to use it on this saw? Pressure and vacuum test will be done after it gets a bath before any more tear down.

Now I have a bigger problem. I found an OE crank case on Ebay for reasonable price. I have a 350 to use for all the external parts except a top cover that can't get to seal up the riser to case. The OE top end will go on this saw. The 351 go for trading fodder, maybe the OE as well, when its done. The one I brought home today, will be worked over top to bottom.

I have to agree with those who suggest just getting a new OEM cylinder kit. With yet another price drop that just happened, it's getting really hard to justify another method of getting it back into service. Just make darn sure the crank bearings and seals are still serviceable too, or just replace them and have no worries.

That piston looks like it was straight gassed. (a small percentage of the blown up saws I get actually suffered that fate)
That said, the cylinder and perhaps the bearings are probably toast. (maybe the crank bearings too). You'll have to get it all apart before deciding which direction to go in. There's lots of options.

Sure appears straight gas may be the cause.
