So the ole trusty fs 86 is down and in need of more repairs than time allows at the moment, but mother nature isn't waiting on me and things are getting out of hand quickly :babeando: its time to buy.... I was really leaning towards an fs 94 but need to dump some money's into the saw fleet as well, so that might have to hit the back burner.... any suggestions fellers??

What do you all think about cable vs solid shafts on these budget models? Will they take a blade?
It looks like the Redmax runs a steel shaft, really only other one in that price point is hitachi/tanaka that I've seen. Interesting because I thought Redmax was basically Husqvarna, but their 23cc entry seems to run a cable drive.

shaft drive is stronger and can handle the abuse running a blade versus a cable model.
entry level commercial is what i use not the cheap residential model they sell.
mine is quiet smooth when it comes to vibration and comfortable to run
not to mention it is light.

Call around and see if you can find a Husqvarna 323L.The 525 replaced it but gained a little weight in the process.

never had a 223 or 322. I sought out a 323L long after the model was discontinued and was able to find one. For what it is, it's great.

323 and 223 use the same engine.

Shindaiwa 242 I got is very smooth and well balanced/light, relatively quiet and good on gas. Enough power to run a blade too and has steel driveshaft. Nothing like the speed feed head as well. If I was gonna buy a 280$ echo 230 I'd spend extra 40$ and get 266s which has a lot more power and steel driveshaft but that's just me. When I was working for a private school's landscaping department we had a fleet of 266's and they were run all day in summer every day and didn't miss a beat. Only thing I don't like about echo trimmers is the deflector is too small, which is one of the reasons I got a 242, you get hit with a lot of debris, but some people like smaller deflector.

Now I have less then two acres, but I have pretty much everything with a roundup border so I can get close enough with the push mower and no need for weed wackin'
