Wonder if the stihl 066 bearing will fit the rod to use a 12mm pin thinking the 272 piston may work well.

Lots of friends tell me that they can't run a big Echo with a Stihl bar. I do it all the time with my CS-670:

Just takes an adapter. I made this one in the shop with a strip of hardwood. It works. I like a 28" bar, but it will pull a 30" as well. The oiler works fine.

I ran a standard d009 large mount husky bar on the ones I've had here. They're a little loose, but not much. The end of a 20" bar will lift about 1.5" rather than 1". Plus, I could run a 72dl chain instead of 70

I've done that too. And some where along these fine pages I read of someone having bar studs made to fit the D009 bar slot.

I like the homelite410 spacers and run stihl bars.

Although the spacer that fits the smaller 590-680 echo dosent fit the 8000. The retaining screws on the bar plates hit.

Can grind them out and make it work, but it's not a slide in deal. Same with the stihl adjuster holes need opened up.

I had the same problem on that jd800 I got from ya. Then found out that the screw is supposed to hold the adapter on there.

I got around that problem Dub11 mentioned with indentations (blind holes) that I drill into the adapter for clearance. Good hardwood works but it does wear after awhile. So I usually make two or three at a time. You can also see the blind holes for the outside cover in the Pic. I may try Dub11/'s mounting idea. That never dawned on me.

I've always thought that my CS-670 will run even with a Stihl 046 Mag, and my friend's CS-8000 that I restored last spring can easily run with my MS660. Echo makes some good big saws. That's MHO.
