Got a dolmar 6800i bought at auction for like nothing 20 bucks i think. Piston is clean, has a big spike, full wrap, someone butchered the air lid for a foam filter set up of some device. Its missing some pieces, oil pump, clutch drum, some hardware for the oil pump setup. Also needs air filter elbow, airfilter, and new lid.

Question is, is it worth buying all these pieces and get it up and going?, where does a 6800 fall in place compared to others in its class. Just walk by it everyday and want it running just dont know if its worth the money im sure dolmar parts arent cheap.

The units seem to have a good reputation as far as I have observed.

68cc
3.6kW @ 9000rpm
4.2Nm @ 6500rpm
12500rpm max.
6.6kg

If You decide to rebuild the saw find a scored donor unit and/or hurry with getting new parts as they are going NLA one after the other.

Good find at 20$, you suck! :)

I own and run many of the Sachs Dolmar saws since 1985, used them in commercial harvest and thinning conditions, actually preferred them over the Stihl`s offered at the time , 115, 116, 120S , 6800`s were the main saws. They were tough and could take a beating so I would rebuild one in a heartbeat. This is the last one I built but really have not used it much, just a few picts so you know I am not just blowing smoke,

I may have some of the parts you need. Or alternatively, I'd consider buying your 6800.

I loved the one I had a number of years ago...I think it was a 120si variant.

For some reason the screws holding the intake block on had backed out so it was necessary to repair that to make a solid and reliable runner out of that.

You may want to have a peek at that if you're in there. Cheap insurance.

I will tear it part way down soon, im selling off part of my collection and keeping a select few like this one to fix and run.

Dads 120si had a chokeniasue once where the plastic choke mechanism started backing out of the body and flooding the engine mega time. That was about the only issue he ever had.

The 120si, runs pretty hard, but if memory serves, my 4200 countervibe would eat its lunch. Especially when the bars get over 30"
