Hi guys I have a 661 part saw I'm rebuilding .

The crankshaft has no play up and down .It rotates nicely in the case and feels rather good, abit of sideways movement but I feel like that's normal.

It can rock from 11o clock - 1 o'clock rather easy .

Is that acceptable ?

I'm looking at replacing the crank bearings , seals and piston as a minimum .

At the top of the stroke it can move quite a bit before the actual rotation can be noticed .For example when you set up a degree wheel you have to move the crank fore and aft and notate degrees of movement and split the difference to determine actual top dead center .A look see on You Tube might show how .

as long as there is no radial (up and down) play you should be good.
Sounds like my crankshaft is still good. Like I said the only play is I can wiggle it from 11oclock to 1oclock on the main bearing.

Even if it was shot , are aftermarket crankshaft any good?

They’re a crapshoot. Some say they last awhile, some say not
