I'm still in the experimental phase, the purple didn't work too well the first was too dark and I'm not sure the second was too light. uploadfromtaptalk1457316363662.jpguploadfromtaptalk1457316374852.jpg

Different plastics might respond to different types of dye?

Philbert
Their ability to absorb, I would say that plastics that are prone to staining are good to dye, and ones resistant to staining aren't.

I didn't know this existed. That probably would work better as longbas it dull the glossyness.

Could be a good science fair type project. Collect a bunch of scrap / broken plastic parts from a variety of saws. Get several different types of dyes. See which ones stick, which ones penetrate, which ones cover other colors well, etc. In some cases (no pun intended) paint might work best ( http://www.krylon.com/products/fusion-for-plastic/ ). Some plastics will resist almost any dye / stain / paint.

So far black rit dye works really well on stihl and husqvarna covers. But I wonder if solvent dyes might penetrate deeper.

You could try just the bit at the front mount submerged.

That's what i wanted to know. Don't care if i can't see through
Here's how mine went. I tried to mask it off and keep it transparent. That part failed but still turned out great!

Is there a husky color dye or something close? My plastic is beyond wet sanding and all that jazz. I don't think paint would work as gas and oil will make it flake

Guess I never got around to sharing my experience. @PA Dan this thread inspired me to dye the Jonny. Had great success as you and others laid out the recipe. Thanks for that! Here's some pics.

Original red case had a broken tab on the left flag mount so I used an orange one.
