I have spent the nights this past week doing a little bit of R and D on the 562, and its getting better! This particular saw has been my personal user for almost a year, and has had around five gallons of gas through it. It also has the el-48 carb, and has had the "bog" since almost new.

After removing the base gasket, squish was .018, so we left it there. Next was the port work, and here is the final result:

The transfers, stratos, and intake.

The lowers:

The exhaust. It was only widened and squared up a bit, the roof is not raised.

Are you gunna swap the carb out?
Not yet. After a couple tanks of fuel today, the bog is gone. Before, when throttled up after an idle period, it would smoke badly, so my thinking was to give the stratos a bit more time, and it seems to have worked. It also is possible that it had a small air leak before teardown, I didn't check for one.

Both the upper trans and stratos were widened, and strato timing was increased by grinding the piston. I also raised the exhaust side piston skirt, to help open up the lowers a bit.

The actual intake port was left untouched, I only removed a bit of casting flash and smoothed things out a bit.

Even a simple base gasket delete requires that the case be clearanced for the trans caps and screws. The base gasket was .029" measured with micrometer.20160205_081807.jpg

The muffler:

I was able to go through the openings and get all of the baffle and pipe removed, and leave the factory deflector and screen intact.

Thanks Don! Let me get this one finished and we'll have to meet up and compare stock vs. ported.
We will do it Allen. I've never felt the need to port mine, but I am a power junky. :D
