after an injection of redbull :aplastao:I got this killer idea! See if turning on heated handle would rob the saw of some performance.

41" cannon. .404 Stihl RS full comp 117dl. 7pin

Heated handles OFF - 32.5 , 422F max temp on thermocouple.

Heated handles ON - 31.9 , 425F -

knew after the first cut (heat OFF) the chain was just a touch too tight. It's hard to get it just right on the 41". It's right on the edge of not enough oil. Anyway, I loosened it a touch for the 2nd cut (heat ON). So pretty sure that is why the cut is half sec faster. Temps the same. Conclusion - doesn't hurt performance at all. :ARMS1:

The laws of physics say that if you're using energy generated by the engine to send current to the heater, that energy is NOT going to the chain. Is it noticeable? Vid above says "obviously not as much as chain tension".

Same argument as electric vs. belt driven fans in autos. Electrics have won out.

If I could remember my physics and/or electronics classes, I could tell you exactly how many HP the heater uses. But I don't so I won't. ;-)

I was under the impression it was worse in cold conditions, dunno, never had it or used heated handles

Tho did see a very interesting g video by Dr John Bergman where he treats it by concentrating on the neck and not the hands/arms, which ties into my issue last year where a pinched neck nerve stopped both thumbs working

The heated handle must not draw many amps.

A toaster uses 9 or 10 amps/bout 2000 Watts. I don’t know how warm these get. Half that hot?
