Could 1 tank of Stihl 50 to 1 oil cause a perfectly good running (almost new saw) to seize up?
My saw was running excellent as of this morning. Was doing some big tree work for a company and he said he had a can of stihl premix 93. Damnit I know better than to not bring my own fuel but only had a few trees to buck up. Last Thursday I topped it off with the premix and burned most of a tank. Today I topped it off with the premix again and made about 8 cuts in some 16 inch cedar.
Next I pushed a 50 inch fir over and proceeded to buck it at the stump.
When I started the saw I felt a vibration at idle that was new but went away with a little throttle. Half way through the first cut it died and is locked up solid.
I always run 40 to 1 VP and never had issues.
This saw has about 2 gallons through it so barely broke in.
Could it be the 50 to 1 premix?

I really wouldn't think even stihl ultra would damage a saw that fast
But i have heard of the premixed fuel being wildly inaccurate in mix ratio
Even my local Stihl dealer doesn't recommend the premix.

With some of the recent canned fuels I've used (not Stihl) claiming to be 40-1 some seem to be very light on the oil.
I'm now shaking the cans well b4 opening pouring some into a clear glass container to see if there is any tint in the mix. Some cans have a defernite red tint and some are almost clear. Those clearer ones (and tinted ones) are getting a good dose of oil, just to be safe.

I'm not trusting any of it for oil content anymore.

I've heard several people say they thought the mix was off. I got scared of it and don't buy it anymore. I buy the 4 cycle fuel and mix my own oil.

Could be a lot of things. The first 346 I rebuilt threw a circlip in the first few tanks. You’ll find out when you tear it apart.

When the current batch is used up that what I intend to do.

Maybe, just maybe that's why some retailers had it at just over $6 for the 110oz can.

I’m leaning this way as well. I wonder if some of the labs would be able to test ratio? The last batch of 40:1 TruFuel looked pretty light as well. I buy e free if we are cutting a lot, but for the occasional saw or hedge trimmers, I use canned fuel.

I have never understood the desire for canned fuel. I am sure there is a small amount sold here but no one I have ever known uses it.

I think it’s more often for the homeowner consumer, who doesn’t want to be bothered with the mixing of 2T oil and gas ,

I understand that. They are the same folks pushing the battery BS also.

That's how I felt about it when it first came out. But with a shelf life of 5 years, it's all I use in my polesaw because I only use it once or twice a year, it has sat for 2 years before with the canned fuel in it and it fires right up.

I do not personally use AV gas but I know folks that do and it is suppose to have a pretty long shelf life also. Near all of our stations here sell ethanol free fuel so I do not have to worry about that even though I do use it in my mower. When you go through 20 gallon in a day it is not much of an issue. I do have a gas skidloader that sat with ethanol in it..........not good at all.

Had a chance to get the top end off this morning. I think plug looks good. Wash is good. No noticeable bearing issues.
I'll clean it up and see if the vibration is still there.

I have only had one 390. I often wonder why Husky made them when they had the staple 395. I wondered the same thing about why Stihl had the 650 also when the 660 was a dynamo.
