the length of the chain also depends on the saw, I just add 1 heart to each Solo 650av chain

I ran it today with the .404 and I like it. It probably cut a little faster than 3/8” but what I like is that it really digs in and doesn’t shake the crap out of me. A lot less vibration than I expected and there’s room for a longer bar too, it didn’t load it up THAT much. Also, today was cutting skidded logs. Now, I rake these logs mercilessly to remove the mud and the let them get rained on some before cutting. Seems to help, the chain is still razor sharp after one tank. Which went way too fast btw. 5CAC7B9F-D60F-48A3-87FF-9A54E555D6E6.jpeg
Jury’s still out on the suspension upgrade. I don’t use the saw much.

And it’s Christmas, I need the $50 for other stuff.
And I’ve been thinking more on the speed thing. When I put this on the spikes and leaned on it some it would stall. After running 3/8 for so long I can tell that it happens less with 3/8”. You can lean lots harder. The smaller pitch would definitely help keep chain speed up and it might then cut faster. Idk.
I still like it mostly because I believe it will stay sharp longer . Cuts fast enough, that’s for sure. And I think the stiffer AV’s would make it more enjoyable, I’ll check them out after the new year.

that's why the chain is thicker so that it bites the tree better ;-) unfortunately it needs more power

Need to know local shop is closing and there is some NOS 404 chain that could be bought sale price. Should I pick some up and try to resale?
Don’t know what it’s worth or what size most people would want.
Let me know, next week is there last week open.
Thanks

I think that a chain 404 longer than 24" is already too much load for the saw / but the chain has the advantage that it can be shortened or extended ;-)

You can't really go wrong no matter the gauge. Lemme know what gauges and cutter styles (chisel, semi, chipper, skip, full comp, etc) they have plus a price, I may pick some up if the price is right.
