I hope so.

I hope they go back to an honest displacement match: a 71.7ish cc saw should have been a 442, not a 462.

When they want to build another 77+ cc saw, that’s when we should see a new entry into the 46X series.

I much prefer a torquey 460/461 for a 36” bar to the high-strung 462.

I don't know why they went with the current numbering convention, but the 460/1 replacement you are talking about is the 500i. That is a saw that's comfortable pulling a 36.

I think the 400 and 500i will be the last one’s standing in their class.

I still like the 462. The 362, I wan never a fan.

IMHO, 462 has a need. 362 too close to the 261 and now that the 400 was created, no one will want a 362.

The 500i is great, but it’s quite heavier and larger than the 462. The 462 is also MUCH more fuel efficient.

The 362 has been around for 15 years or so..in a few configurations..

The 462 has been in the US for around 4 years now and had an update around 2020 that made it better than it originally was..

Who told you the 462 is on borrowed time..

I personally prefer the 362 over the 400. Mostly because I really hate mtronic saws. I've run an old 038 mag with no fuel filter in a pinch when water froze in it. Ran it for a solid week like that, and the screen in that Bing carb was plugged solid! Now try that with a mtronic saw, it would make it about 5 tanks of gas before the solenoid fails.

To be honest, it wouldn’t exactly hurt my feelings. A lot of guys like the 462, but I was never a big fan. It never had, and still doesn’t have the guts of the big 1128s. Hell, it doesn’t even have the guts and ability to pull down a 441 has. Maybe the 500i is supposed to be their replacement, but they are much more expensive, the air filter sucks and the AV is floppy. It’s also light and doesn’t have the balance the saws that preceded it.

Neither one balances a 32” standard bar well, the tip just flops to the ground. Yeah, maybe I’m yearning for something that won’t come around, but I’d love to see Stihl come to a saw at this price point that actually replaces the MS 441 and 461 in the ability to run a long bar confidently and balance it, that has a lot of the running characteristics of a Husqvarna 572XP.

Might feel heavier for sure, but the actual dry weights are 6,0 kg (+0,72 l gas, +0,34 l oil) and 6,2 kg (+0,785 l gas, +0,325 l oil) which is not so big difference.
