Just did the swap on the 346, putting a 357 carb on it.

For those that have done this, how far out did you have to turn the carb screws????

My low idle is 3 turns out. Starts, re- starts, idles, and revs fine, just thought with a bigger carb I wouldn't have to go so rich. The saw is ported.

Thanks

The saw is ported, I need to go back and check where the stock screws were set. I haven't had time to get the saw in wood for a perfect tune, been raining a lot.

Was the carb new? Or been rebuilt?

My ported 346 was 1 1/16 high and 7/8 low with a new 198 and 346 intake.

Something not quite right.

Re built, carb kit, looked fine. Cleaned in ultra sonic cleaner. Carb wasn't on a saw before, so not sure??

I guess you already did this modd with your 199 carb:

If you used the k24kit, the lever is never 100% flush with the carb, actually isnt 100% flush with oem kit either, I have to adjust them a tad
Thats the first step I would started with.

Yep, got the kit, did notice lever not flush, that is likely the problem.

I will adjust and report back. I didn't change the lever. I have the tool, somewhere???, lever supposed to be flush with carb body??? I suspect it was slightly below. Need to find that key chain carb guide Louis from walbro gave at the GRE last year.

I actually did two of these, one ported, one not, and both have low screw out too far for my liking, but seem to run fine ( neither seen wood yet)

I did trim the carb floor to get it to fit better. I was able to get it all in without trimming, but the carb was angled with tension wanting to turn counter- clockwise when looked at from top.

I think the lever should go flush with the carb body
Far as I've read to high more fuel, low lesser fuel, or was it the other way lol. What I've seen is that the lever from Walbro or Husky is never 100% correct according Walbros instruction.
I am no pro, i use the not sharp side of an razor blade and slide it over the body while I see if it toutch the lever or not

Btw, the lever is the same on many Walbro carbs, find another hda carb and steal the lever from it and try it on your 199.

Man, Tor R, your the man!!!!

I have seen that vid a million times, but was going from memory and didn't verify meter height, and now wondering if I put the gaskets in the right order???

Holes are drilled in the plate already.

I will re check my assembly and meter height and report back!!!

Really glad you posted that video, it's all coming back now. I had ordered all the parts, they got delayed, I started doing 3 other saws, one month later memory not too good!!!

I have the opposite problem with my hda198 I cannot touch the high from factory settings or it will die and not restart in any direction. And the high is anywhere from 3/4 to 1/2 turns out. It runs good like that but that just seems wrong to me, also other than a compression bump it hasn't been ground on.

Sorry to resurrect such an old post... but:

When putting a HDA-199 on a 346, along with the 357/359 intake, air filter and spring clamp, do you also need to use the choke control, throttle rod, and kill control from the 357/359?

Yes for it to work properly. If you use the 346 choke lever it won’t pull the on switch like it’s supposed to
