Good to hear! I'm ordering 4 of those caps and not even messing around with any of the substitutes that have been mentioned. I appreciate the heads up on your results.
Out of curiosity, how long did it take to get them from Taiwan? They offer a pretty wide window for delivery time.

Ordered 06/06 arrive 06/15. No tracking. I’ll have one spare and another 630 v that foggy pointed out from wima. I also ordered the one for my 031 with cutting out hot issues. May order a few more of the 056 size caps though just to have on hand.

I'm in no hurry as my 056 has been in pieces in a box since I got it several years ago for $35 from a Husky dealer. They found a 'no spark' situation and priced the replacement SEM for the owner who promptly took the $35 in bench credit and applied it to a new saw..., 395xp as I recall. He even left the brand new 36" Windsor Speed Tip and new chain with the saw which also came with the deal. Needless to say, it was a good day for ol' Pogo! The other good day for this saw was when I found a Bosch ignition and flywheel locally for $20. I'm going straight for the Foggy fix on this thing and not looking back even though I have two spare SEM modules.
Kind of excited to dig into it now that I have the Philips caps on the way.

There ya go pogo. It is only a single port muffler. From what I can tell, if the “x “ stamp in the front of the actual muffler case under the guard indicates it is single port, that’s what it is.

Great old saws and I'd say 'mission accomplished' with yours! And I'm sure there are a variety of ways to open up the muffler if you had a mind to. I believe I'd be inclined to leave it stock because that's just how I am about the older stuff.

Good job and thanks for sharing.

Well, pretty sure the PTO side crank bearing bought the farm today. Ever so slight amount of play, just enough to make a knock sound when moving up and down can’t see any movement though. Faint grinding sound. Piston and cylinder still clean so far as I can see with muffler off and plug out. Guess I will start cruising the net for a bearing for it..... argh!

You mean both bearings, as well as that seal that you didn’t replace last time. ;-)
Didn’t replace it cause it wasn’t leaking, I do happen to have it on hand already though....

Been a while since I have needed to use my splitter but I guess out it will come again.

Seems by the time it’s said and done this one will be in the same boat as my 048, as many new parts as it will have. Pretty much full rebuilds.

Those tech notes are Priceless when either trying to upgrade or repair a saw. Helps narrow down part numbers a whole lot quicker than using the part# hierarchy that Stihl has. Unfortunately most of the older documentation for Stihl parts is still hit or miss unless you do your homework.

My pleasure regarding the documentation. It started out as an 1111 documentation project from a some old hard copy material I was fortunate enough to temporarily snag from DefinitiveDave -- - who obtained it in a buyout of stuff from an old closed down Stihl dealer. I was wrestling with a parts compatibility issue on an 051 oil pump drive and he was kind enough to loan me everything he had on the 1111 series. Took forever, but I finally got it all digitized via camera (vs. scanner) and converted to PDF for my archives..., (and the oiler drive issue sorted out too, btw). Sent it all back and he then volunteered the 1115 material for the same basic conversion process. Sent that back and asked if he had any other golden nuggets in his library just to find out he had sold it all!!!

If you haven't run across it elsewhere JJ, there's a link to the 1111 stuff inbound to your PM box.

Well I now have both crank bearings, will need to cut or find a new case gasket. New clutch side already has seal installed (why Stihl did this I don’t know). Will reuse my old new parts from last repairs. Argh this saw it pissing me off. It might go down the road once it’s back together just cause of how much the whole deal with this saw has pissed me off.

Well I’m closer to getting this nightmare put back together. New seals, bearings gaskets. Debating on a bit of port work before putting it back together.

Well it’s all back together and running well. Cylinder is unmolested. Popped on 4’th pull fired on 5’th. Danged clutch side bearing was bone dry. Pretty much all but thy cylinder is new on it now.

It had oil film on piston crank and flywheel side bearing but clutch side bone dry.

Glad to hear it's working out, Dale. Sometimes persistence pays off! And with the Foggy fix in place, you should be good for a long, long time now.

I really need to put mine together one of these days...lol.

@PogoInTheWoods In figuring I wasn’t ever going to find the bearing for this thing I bought and rebuilt a husky 288 as well. Opened a whole mother world of saws of an all orange flavor.

Hooray 288! I have two nice runners and another in a box needing just a little (ok, a lot of) attention. They have a cult following for a reason, don't they??!!
