I've seen cranks in worse shape...

..but never a bearing split down the middle like this.

I'm feeling lucky it's the bearing with a split outer race or I'd have one hell of a time getting the rest out.

There doesn't appear to be any damage to the case and the rest of the saw is in very good shape.
I'm no forensic saw grenade expert and have no back story... what do you think happened?

Looks like a failure over quite some time. Looks like the bearing race had different colored deposits along the busted area. Bad bearings that just took time to fail?
That is quite the failure!!!

From the looks of it the saw was in a cut when the crank broke in two. The flywheel did this while the bearing was getting worked on by the other half. 20181017_155003.jpg 20181017_173218.jpg

It's unfortunate because it's a nice slant fin cylinder otherwise. I do have a nice replacement on hand which I'll port at no additional cost to thank Clint for his patience on the p60 build.

That thing must have vibrated for awhile before it let go. You have to wonder about some people continuing to run such a saw and not shutting it down immediately.
Ya I also bet it was making some abnormal sounds! I have a 461 that was making a nasty knocking rattling sound...big end bearing is getting loose...it has play but surprisingly not that mush compared to the noises it was making! And most guys just want to “runner tell she blows”

I’m not mechanic or porter but I believe this is where epoxy would save this cylinder or am I not seeing this correctly. I know I have heard of guys taking a little to much out when grinding and putting epoxy on the outside to give it some added strength. I have had saws with it and never had any problems
