Some back story for you guys.
I decided I needed to sell a couple saws to help make room for more. After some deep thought I finally decided that it was time to let my beloved MOFO 036 go to a new home.
Down off the shelf it came for a clean up and going over before I listed it. This is when I had my “oh chit” moment. I removed the front muffler cover to have a look at the piston and get a couple pictures and I saw that the piston was covered in very light scratches. The saw had ran perfectly fine the last time I used it and still had tons of compression. Time to dig deeper and see what’s up. Off came the cylinder. The crank spun smooth at first and there was no bearing movement felt. Now because the piston was scratched up I knew there had to be something bad happening. I decided to flush the crank case out and that’s when I felt the bearings begin to feel gritty. Time for a rebuild58D03DD4-5003-497E-A312-12DFFF6CCA84.jpeg31869511-2394-4477-A24E-EA5C03CDFF50.jpegCC8BD920-4832-4182-A09D-B6750A1A6B0E.jpegAs far as I could tell these are the original bearings. The cases have never been apart until now.

New meteor piston and caber ringsDC9E73FE-FC64-44E2-A914-F1BB75C9170C.jpegCylinder back on. No base gasket used since it didn’t have one when I took it apart. I used some 518 anaerobic gasket maker to seal the cylinder to the cases. Fly wheel also back on with the original FW key that had been filed.CB14319F-B097-45FE-A307-A0ECA5A835C6.jpegMuffler and heat shield on again.94ADDFFA-623D-4DC0-A391-E8E8DD88EC85.jpegB1660E23-D356-4F78-B8B5-15ECA425D4B5.jpeg

Checked the squishCD5AC6BB-1CED-4FAE-B53C-CB5C14C3512F.jpegFuel tank assembly back on. I didn’t think to take any pictures but I drilled the tank and installed a new newer style S shaped fuel line and a new fuel filter. This saw also has a Hong Kong Zama carb and new metal mesh air filter.45490FB2-F6F4-4368-AB82-654AE815A3A7.jpegCC173EEF-A9EF-44D5-AC7C-83531BB610DD.jpeg

To summarize this saw has the following new parts

-upgraded S shapes fuel line
-fuel filter
-metal mesh air filter
-throttle linkage
-choke linkage

The saw features the following
-upgraded clutch drum and bearing
-Hong Kong Zama carb (no snorkel)

The best part is that it is also a MOFO!!!

As I said in my first post I was wanting to sell this saw and I still do.

I remember back when I ported my first 036 PRO, that saw so impressed me with the gains I got out of it without machining, just opening the ports, transfers and slight timing changes + muffler mods . Wish every saw responded this way, just something about the 036 and 360 that have pent up power just waiting to be released.
Someone is getting a powerhouse in a nimble package. GLWS.

I agree 100%. A ported 036 imo is a 1 saw plan. Small enough to do light limbing and big enough to tackle felling and bucking. I’ve run this saw with a 28” bar noodling ash and it was great.
