I'm hearing gossip about a new 261 coming soon. Claims of a stronger engine.

Any details?

Be pretty cool if there were a new MS261 coming. The 'facelift' they gave the current version is a couple of years old, but essentially the MS261 hasn't changed much since it came out in 2010??..so it must be close to a decade old. Been a good pro saw from Stihl, its an important model to get right. You can almost judge a brand by its 50cc pro saw! There is definitely room for improvement on what's been a great saw for a long time now.

It got lighter at some point at least.

In Germany that updated version will be availible from 2020 on. It should have:

a nickel platet throttle shaft
a tinned piston
a new solenoid valve in the carburetor
What do these get me? More power? Less weight?
a .325" Pro saw chain with narrow kerf
STIHL Light 04 bar
Can't wait for these to arrive!
weight: 5.8kg
12.8 lbs? They won't sell very many of them if that's true. :)

All matters how they weigh them. With or without fluids, bar, chain, etc...

What is a tinned piston?

Ahh. Lol. OK.
One would think that they would develop technology and use it threwout the entire lineup. Like the magnesium piston or whatever it is. Makes more sense to me.
But hopefully they hit the 261 out of the park. Wonder if they will still offer a regular carbed version as well?

My Translation came up with "dotted piston" so I'm going to assume "popup piston" which would make sense.

261 gen 3 will enter the marked in 2020, supposed to get an updated mtronic and lighter.
They will also introduce a new chain, 50ga for it.
Alot of their lineup is supposed to get the mtronic gen 3, MS-150, MS-193 and MS-201. Rumors say their new MS-201 power head weight only 3.7 kg.

Please tell me it will have a magnesium starter cover. Not that the plastic is bad, but it is a cheap design imo!
