I was able to run my SP125 today cutting up an ash log someone else dropped. They took down 5 or 6 trees altogether including a large soft maple out front. I have made three trips with my truck and trailer hauling wood home.

I have been running the 044 Stihl I recently acquired as well as a PM850...I have decided to sell the 044 and keep using the PM850.

I am making progress on the wood supply for 2020/21, 2019/20 is covered.

Rather unusual to find an ash tree with the bark still intact . I had a windfall of a hard leaner I had procrastinated for several years trying to think of a method that would not clear out a bunch of trees as well as not killing myself in the process . One windy night mother nature did it for me ,perfect lay.
I cut it up last week and got almost exactly a cord out of it .No giant but still a good amount of fire wood .I kind of got my stack a little leaning but it will be okay

Looks like part of that ash shook hands with that fence. Nice haul on the wood.

Hey Mac people. I found a 10-10s in a friends garage, homeowner used for woodline on stuff that fell on lawn. Started in 2 pulls. Can anyone give any background on this? Is it one of the Hot Rod Macs? What newer stuff can I compare it to? Thanks20190420_165747.jpg

Yep. Last of the 10-10 series (I think) and fairly desirable, too. Looks like a nice one under the funk. Clean it up and post more pics along with one of the tag in the airbox (if there is one).

Cool, picking it up tonight or tomorrow. From what little I have searched it has a chrome/nikasil cylinder and bigger ports than a reg 10-10?? Is that correct? Will post more when I get it.

Should be 57 cc if its a super. Standard 1010 was 54. Later model with the black filter cover but I'm guessing. Should have an aluminum tag inside the carb housing under the filter cover. That Will tell the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey said. Dad has one identical to this. Good stout saw. Pulls a 20" bar like child's play. Extremely good torque compared to modern saws. Little heavy, REALLY LOUD, and not as fuel efficient as some newer ones, but if you want a saw that pulls like a freight train in sappy wood or dry, this ones hard to beat. And it sounds sooooo good!
Actually, it's not that great. You should just give it to me, and I'll "dispose of it " for you.

Well she is home, got it running and bad smelling fuel is filling up area below filter, coming out of every gasket on carb, and dripping out decomp.Surprisingly, it still ran good and cut some dense hemlock at a feel similiar to a 455/460 Rancher. I hope to see how it runs sealed up and tuned.
So here is that tag you guys said to post...what can you tell me about this20190427_160004.jpg 20190427_155829.jpg 20190427_155819.jpg 20190427_155804.jpg 20190427_155729.jpg thing?? Supposedly bought new in mid eighties. Thanks.

Most likely that fuel leak is at the seam where the two tank haves meet together. The best way to fix that is to get some red-kote and seal it.

Or the notoriously leaky fuel line grommet. Teflon tape for that. Red-Kote would be pretty extreme (and expensive) just to seal the tank seam, imho. Think I'd just go with a new tank gasket and some MotoSeal. The MotoSeal itself may do the job. No need to line the whole tank just to seal the seam. Again, just in my humble opinion. I've done it both ways.

I'd guess that saw is an early 80's. Pretty low serial number. Mine is 024272. Pretty low, too. They produced them up until 1998. No real date code in the serial number itself. The carb may have a date code on it, tho. Would only provide a ballpark since it would obviously be older than the production date of the saw. I've never checked mine. There was some recent discussion about carb date codes but I neglected to bookmark it and don't recall which thread -- or forum for that matter. The Mac thread on AS is pretty active and there's also a dedicated 10-10 thread with lots of good info. Might be over there somewhere. Think the poster may have been vinnywv.

You'll like that saw once you get it tightened up and dialed in. It'll pull a 28" bar and chain setup, no problem.

I just noticed your model number has a 'D' suffix. Mine is a 'B'. Maybe someone has the documentation detailing the difference(s). Not sure I have anything that would clarify that. I'll do some looking.

Thanks for the help, its a neat little saw, not too heavy. Ill research some more. Not really able to give a good impression until tuned up but what I could tell was an impressive instant torque and pull in cut(for its dispacement).

Sometimes just leaving the tank full will swell the old cork gaskets enough to stop a leak, a few wraps of Teflon tape where the grommet goes through the tank to stop any leaks there, you can try to tighten the carburetor bolts but it is possible you will have to replace the gaskets. It is very helpful if you can get one gasket and the insulator to stick to the bottom of the air box and the other gasket to stick to the carburetor when you reassemble.

I've got a 10-10s that is probably the last year of production .It was a proverbial "barn" find and if I'm not mistaken has the original Mac labeled chain with very little usage .Looks nearly new and for all intents is a shelf queen .However I have a none S a few years older that will outrun it .Occasionally I use that one .

At the upstate NY GTG I got a McCulloch 840. I’m looking for a muffler, air filter, top cover screw, flywheel cover screws, and carb screws. I probably need more but this is off the top of my head

I was asked to travel to the Seattle area for work (I still help out even though I am mostly retired) and had a chance to visit Wayne Sutton yesterday. Wayne has an extraordinary collection of saws and related stuff, it was a real pleasure spending a few hours with him.
