Runs like champ. I LOVE the way these saws sound. Sooo strong. That slight timing advance really added a nice lick to the idle. Throttle response is instant. I'll make a few cuts today and have crackerbuilt load it up a video

Forgot to mention this is NOT my saw. Randy is a friend of mine. He gave me this saw a while ago to rebuild. Piston was scored, bearings were shot, and needed a few other things replaced or fixed. Called him yesterday and let him hear it run. He hasn't seen it yet. He should be pretty stoked ;-)

Rounded myself up a decent 550XP on the cheap. Running but scored piston and wouldn't idle more than a few seconds. Planning on a rebuild and mods. Looking for a decent piston and rings for this thing. HL Supply is on back order it seems.

Any success stories for rebuilding, porting and bringing these things up a notch or three?

Can anyone enlighten me on the difference(s) between the 372xp X-torq / CS2172 Turbo cylinder (575 25 57-02) and the CS2166 Turbo cylinder (575 77 41-02) aside from the removable x-fer covers on the 2166? I'm guessing different transfer design since there's supposedly a .5 hp difference between the 2166 and the 372/2172 and everything else connected to the cylinder is the same.

I've read that just grinding out the x-fer dividers in a 2166 Turbo cylinder essentially makes it a 372 x-torq cylinder.

AFAIK they are the same other than the trans covers.
So not really a different transfer 'design', one's just intentionally obstructed by way of a simple bolt on part...

Now a 353/346 or 357/359 are certainly good examples of different cylinder designs intended to stagger price/performance within the same saw family.

When I had a 2166 I was told the same as you, remove the transfer port baffle and you gained a .5 hp and you were the same as a 2172.

I hear what you're sayin, but....

In my mind a partitioned transfer vs. an unobstructed one would be a different design which obviously affects performance (negatively) by .5 hp in this particular case (according to published specs). As a different 'approach' to the same 'design', one would have to ask which came first and why was it changed and then why are both saws still being produced with the same 'design' when one clearly out performs the other one.

The Meteor kit that is supposed to be a replacement for the 575 25 57-02 (xt372 top end) has the partition but without the removable covers as most others seem to have as well (with a couple exceptions where covers are used). This essentially makes these kits replacements for the 575 77 41-02 top end which is a 2166 / 365 top end, not a 372XT or 2172 Turbo kit. The partition in the Meteor kit (even though the x-fers are cast) is what has led to my general confusion since it has been my understanding that the OEM 575 25 57-02 XT top end has no such obstruction and also has cast ports. The Meteor is yet a third 'design' by way of being a completely cast 365/2166 strato top end with the partition and not a 372/2172 top end as advertised.

So the 575 25 75-02 cylinder also has the removable ports, just no divider?

That last pic of the 2101 showing a D-handle is a very good idea .If it's anything like my 2100 that SOB could try and pull your fingers off .

ANYONE BOUGHT a chinese clone of a Husqvarna/ Stihl, and can provide feedback? We had a few in another group that said they ordered, but then disappeared? Killed/ hacked, embarassed or jailed? or too busy cutting wood? LOL :) We all want to know how those $200 clones of $1000-1200 saws run and last. (and then there are the ebay slimers trying to sell them for $800-1000, LOL)
I bought quite a few, what would you like to know

Question. Run across a 298xp runner pho. Would like to have 1 big saw on hand. Is it Pandoras box or reliable old tank? Price seems reasonable at $300 but add in cost of a bar and a couple chains and half way to a newish 390.

298xp Ad was idle for 2 weeks. Was still up this am. Tonight I decide to get serious (no work and rainy tomorrow) and pull up the ad it gone.. Wasn't meant to be this time around.

Hello all, new to the site as a poster. Have a 1983 44 rancher that I am trying to rebuild. Are there any twin ring pistons that I can swap in, and any other cylinder options besides the 444? Wanting to try and get a bit more power from this little guy. Make a great firewood saw that doesn't weigh much. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No 2 ring piston that will swap AFAIK. I have 12-14 44's and a 444. You could widen the intake and exhaust for more power and set squish to .018. Haven't checked squish on any of mine they are all stock. Am porting a 44 cyl. don't know when I will get back to it.

I have a 345 that came in a batch of saws last October. I went through it over the winter and generally like it as a small limbing saw but I have repeated failure of the 503 93 21 01 pump piston...actually the plastic worm gear on the pump piston.

Any ideas on what I can do to make the oiler last longer?

This is a 390 cylinder from a saw that was locked up. I believe the pto side crank bearing let go and a piece of it did this. After I replace the bearings and seals, would y’all clean this up and run it or replace it. It’s a pretty good gouge but I’ve never dealt with a defect in this area before. You can imagine my surprise when I pulled the muffler and there wasn’t a single score mark to be seen. TIA!
