Okay question......how many hours would "this" saw need to be broken in? It's such a power house that you would have to have a lot of big wood to keep her fed.

But having said that, the bar isn't original so maybe it has done a lot of hours and was just VERY well cared for??!!

Would the serial number tell me the build date?
Don’t pay much attention to the bar.... I’ve twisted those jokers and had to put new ones on a couple times. It is possible the saw isn’t broke in yet as was mentioned earlier. Clean saw man I may own one of those myself one day. Big fan of the two series husqvarnas

I'd leave the ring in it. Not enough time on it to change. Only reason I say that is judging by the appearance of the saw and the condition of the piston.
Adjust the squish if ya want, but I'd leave that ring in it.

Yeah unbelievable saws! I've also got a clean 272XP which has a similar sound at idle. But this 288 just absolutely smokes the 272. Like not even on the same planet!!!

I have an ugly ol 272 xp. I dig it. Needs a freshen up Some new seals and rubbers. The ugly plastics don’t matter to me. They’re just good saws.

@traffic903 Have you checked compression after the saw is warmed up?
No I haven't mate. I've always had lower readings with saws when warm. Can do tomorrow though and let you know. It just "seems" to pull hard for that compression number. BUT I will be leaving it alone for a while yet. I made a promise!!! ;)

No that's about normal for those. They had .050" or so with gaskets
Oh mate, don't do this to me!! You know I'm going to have to get in there and check it out now. Maybe it has already been ported?! No surely not, you wouldn't port it and then run a standard muffler?!!!
