Something about that saw isn't the same as other 461's. Figure out what.

Now is when having a good builder/customer relationship is most important. What happens next is really none of our business.

This sort of thing is where any feedback system could run off of the rails.

Haha. I noticed that after I posted it. Nothing to do with you, other than the irony that I completely agree with you. People need to do things for themselves more often

I don't build worksaw's but I've had more than one 390xp break the flange so I quit porting them. I tried one around 200lbs and it still broke so that was enough for me. Cylinders are expensive.

I don't see the point of a feedback system. People need to do their due diligence and research before they hire a builder. It's no different than hiring someone to put a roof on your house or repair your vehicle. Ask around and find who does good work.

I would like to stress that when you have someone to work for you, and for any reason you are not happy with the service that you received, talk to the person that provided that service.

More than once I've heard thru the grapevine that someone has one of my saws that they were less than thrilled with.

How can I fix something unless I know about it?

I think unrealistic expectations can also come into play. It's important to ask a lot of questions upfront. Anyone who is qualified in their field should be able and happy to answer them and help to educate a consumer.

How about a simple customer list so we know who to ask questions of. No feedback at all.

That's true.......but I refused to answer a question for a guy a few days ago.

He said he knew of people charging 200.00 and 250.00 for a port job. He asked why I charged more?

I told him to try out one of those cheaper guys. He acted like I insulted him......so I explained.

I'm not gonna toot my own horn, nor will I say negative things about other guys in this business to a customer.

How could I tell him why I was worth more without doing those things?

Seems like some would rather call the builder out in public. And that lack of communication and willingness to bring public will ultimately create a *s-wordstorm. If it happens in a thread, where it's well known that many people don't like it, imagine would happen in an area meant for it

That can be a simple as asking a builder to provide the names of a few guys he has done saws for.

Here's what I think caused this "fear" of communicating with the builder.

ArboristSite

The place has a negative air to it. Open discussion has been discouraged for years.
