Nice, how you like it?

I think it's over priced for what it is but what isn't these days. I had to shim the motor to square it up but other than that I like it. It's going to take me some practice I know. I'm just trying to make a nice uniform cutting chain at the moment before I even attempt to adapting different angles and what not

Is the grinder new? Just wondering if you had to shim it "out of the box"

Can someone give me some pointers on when converting round to square, I seemed to be taking a lot off the cutter to get it right. Forgive me if it's been mentioned I've only made it to page 11 so far

It's hell on grinding wheels too. I got a bunch converted with a salmon wheel, then got a blue wheel to touch them up.

Just get enough to have .050" side plate. Then use and sharpen again. No use killing 20-30% of the tooth to get a full sideplate
I have a chain that's somewhere in between square and round, boy does it look wicked. Haven't tried it yet but I have a feeling it will saw wood!

So when it starts resembling a square tooth, quit grinding? You got any pictures Mike

I don't have pics, but 4 well placed file strokes will be close to what he's talking about. I filed a couple inside out while converting. Wasn't as hard on files. Seemed to work ok

Cutter looks good.
May want to move the intersecting line down just a tick to be in the lower part of the working corner.
That'll engage the wood a little better.

And like Mike said, you don't need a full side plate square to cut well, just enough to sever the thickness of a chip.
Race chain = soft wood = thicker chips = more side plate.

Work chain don't need as much.
