Picked up a 2011 F-350 cclb lariat 63k miles on February 8, '17. Sold as excellent condition, after I washed it for the first time I noticed the top rail of box is rather rusted and not attached to rest of box any longer. I took it back to dealer they checked it out and said they'd never seen anything like it and if they had caught it it would have been sent to auction. They came up with an estimate of a new bedside at $5500.00 then priced out a new box at $7000.00. They want to make it right supposedly but are starting to give me a run around. Anybody have any pointers in what I should do? I paid 27,995 and there's no way in all of gods green earth I'm putting a nickel in it.IMG_20170223_154624179_HDR.jpg

The box broke apart on a ford work truck. They fixed it under warranty. The cause of the broken box was a heavy air compressor mounted in the bed.

I'll get on the phone with BBB Monday and I'm not sure if lemon law covers physical or just mechanical problems, have to check.

Tell them to buy it back at what you paid for it.
I suggested that, I've been trying to be calm and civil to let them come up with a solution but the sales woman suggested I get mean, unfortunately means is not my best attribute:mad:

Find a new take-off or used box. Hammer to fit, paint to match.
That's the hope, with dealer floating the bill. They claim $4k + paint for a new box I've found a few new take offs for little under $2k

Yeah. Dealers are full of it with cost of parts. Often, Retail is a number pulled out of a commission earning parts guys behind. This is welcomed by the bosses IME.

They should be out of that for less than 2500 and you shouldn't pay a nickel of it. Make sure you let them know you want the best paint guy they have....

Ditch the styleside and instal a flatbed! You can still put your groceries in the back seat.

A new take-off should be $2k or less. Keep a cool head and pursue the course of action you desire. If you desire they fix it and they won't, pursue the buyback. If they won't buy it back, spend $100 and have a lawyer write them a letter and send it registered mail. That might encourage them.

Good luck.

The only good fix is another box. Once they start breaking they are gone. Let the dealer replace the box free or buy the truck back for the price you paid them.

Sure, they could fix the problem at hand, but what else will rust in a few years?

Let them know what you think. Dealers can not sell bad or broken vehicles and stay in business very long.
