While true, I'll be the first to admit the 362 was never a favorite saw of mine, especially when they first came out, however, I have to say, once ported, it makes for a pretty darn nice saw I'd be proud to have and cut with anywhere, anytime. So pass me a slice of that crow... :hambre:

Here's a 7900 ported that I named The Red Baron. These saws cut great after they've been worked over, this one is for an elder so I had to back off on things like squish and timing, even added a big D handle to make it easier for the operator. Doesn't seem to affect performance as I could lean on those big Dawgs and it would grunt right in and take it.

Squish band cut to alleviate compression.
Not easy to see but left a full circle ⭕ squish band and cut .020" from the rest of the oblong part to become part of the dome.

solved a fuel leak on the echo 440evl today and cut up a tree replaced the fuel line, filter and tank grommet i got it mostly cut.
till the chain came off,,,, the spur sprocket broke clean in half time to order a new spur or rim drive for it.
the old spur says HERR on it never heard that name before.
Herr use to make excellent raker gauges. Wish I could find a .025 one.

This cut report is sort of bitter-sweet in that A, it's a clone saw and B, it was already scored just from the owner test firing it. Yes, a piece of plating flaked off next to the upper transfer and did a number on the piston and cylinder. Par for the course, letting myself get into this in the first place, normally I won't touch them, but(there's always a but) when a good customer asked, I had a hard time saying no and said I would do what I could without getting into the cylinder walls. So, the plan was hatched, now with it tore up and the cylinder plating looking like it had the pox, there was no sense going forward with this and a plan B would need to come along for this to work out at all. It was decided to go with a new Meteor brand P&C kit to replace the clone cylinder. The muffler on the saw came with no screens and it needed them being out West in beadle kill country really needs them so a Hyway unit was ordered as well.
Once it came in the mail and I got eyes on it, was night and day difference, good looking plating and nice smooth ports well executed, as well as a decent looking squish band that was already flat. Staying with port plan A, I was able to machine a little off the base to adjust the squish without touching the plating as there was a good bevel at the base. then the exhaust port was ported out and the roof of the intake epoxied and brought down a bit to enhance the port mapping, the transfers were left untouched as well as anywhere on the cylinder walls. Then ignition, carburetor and muffler mods were completed to round out the job.
Proof is in the pudding, so they say, and I have to admit the saw ran better than I had imagined it would. Which I owe a lot to the cylinder swap. How long such a rig will hold together is anyone's guess as it's the same folks that built the rest of the saw as did the reject cylinder, which in all honesty, the worst plating job I've ever seen, all blotchy and corroded looking. Here is is cutting oak out in the cold. Pro tip - make sure it is all the way on before attempting to start, just flicking the switch down from off doesn't make it go on, you have to go a little more.
My original assessment of these saws unfortunately goes unchanged.

Haven't been reporting lately and as far as that goes there really hasn't been anything new lately that I haven't already gone over before. That said, the last couple of saws have a little something different worthy of mentioning.
The first a MS 440, while nothing new there, it did have a new to me cylinder layout to navigate through a touch differently, which made it fun for me, the thing that might make it fun for you is a comparison vidja I made with my assistant @Woodrow with a stock MS 440 that I recently acquired. While not a scientific job by any means, it gives you some idea I believe.

This one is not new to me either other than it's one of the NOS 2018 372's that @NightRogue is providing with a Mahle cylinder and piston. Which is worthy of mentioning, as it was a very fine saw indeed. Any of you folks out there wanting an old school 372xp this or the latest versions are excellent saws worth considering, having worked over both now.

Awesome Steve! Was the new to you cylinder a different combustion chamber? That 372 is snappy!

I tried putting my blue Homelite 150 automatic into a little wood yesterday. 1 month ago, I tore the whole thing apart for cleaning and rebuilt the carburetor. I also restored the bar. Seemed that the rebuild was successful so I put it on the shelf for 20 days, until yesterday when I decided to cut a little wood with it. Well, it’s oiling VERY little. Also, it can’t decide where it wants its carb adjusted, it literally changes its mind about how it feels on the same amount of turns in and out with the carb screws.

I've a nice looking one in the orphanage for wayward saws, if you come up to my GTG it's all yours if you want.
